I love electronics, but I am considering studying Electrical Engineering instead of the technology. I like working with my hands and doing projects, but at the sametime I also want to be the guy who designs the technology. I need some advice with people with industry related experience.

Enroll in electrical engineering; for electives choose electronic courses. When you graduate you will be well qualified to start a career in electronic design, building and debugging your own prototypes. If you decide you enjoy repair more than design you will be well prepared to start your career repairing complex electronic devices.

Hope this helps!

I am a first year engineering student and I study with upper division electrical engineering students all the time. Tim gave the perfect answer. As an engineer you will be well rewarded in many ways. If you can, take an Introduction to Engineering class. The book I'm using this semester is VERY good: Studying Engineering: a Road Map to a Rewarding Career, Third Edition, by Raymond B. Landis, Discovery Press (c) 2007. You will know what to do after you read it.
