I am going to be 18 in 7 months. I live in Illinois. What is the age requirement for buying a rifle. Handgun? Shotgun?

18 for Shotgun and rifle. 21 for handgun.

But your father can give you a handgun legally ;)
You just cant get the concealed permit until you're 21.

Rifle and shotgun are 18. handguns are 21. It doesnt hurt to take hunters safety education courses to be well educated in proper gun handling even if you arent planing to hunt. Have fun and be safe!

21 years or younger you will need to fill out an application for your Firearm Owners Identification card or FOID card. Your parent/legal guardian must sign. You can then buy and use shotguns and rifles. In order to buy a handgun, you must be 21 or older with FOID card.

In most states you must be at least 18 yrs. old to purchase a shot gun or rifle. you must be 21 yrs. to purchase a hand gun.I would also check with your local authorities,or gun shop.

i think its 19 legally..anyways thats where i live but you can buy one at any age you just cant get a permit for them.
