I'm currently working to learn Swedish and it has been moderately difficult. I have never spoken another language fluently though, so I would imagine knowing Spanish already will be an asset since you will know what study techniques work best to help you master another language.

Since Swedish is Germanic, it seems many of the words are similar to English although there are quite a few "false friends" as listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_false_friends_between_Swedish_and_English

It looks like memorizing which words are en or ett words is going to be challenging as well as knowing the correct plural forms. Pronunciation of the vowels is tricky for native English speakers, especially the å, ä, ö, and y sounds. Otherwise, the most difficult part may be finding a place to take a course (if you don't want to teach yourself).

There is a list of links on https://www.phrasebase.com (in the Swedish forums section) to various Swedish learning sites. The best online dictionary I've found is: http://lexin.nada.kth.se/swe-eng.html

With or without the gift of tongues?

LDS missionaries speak it fluently within 6 months (3 in the MTC and 3 in Sweden). This has been well documented by Linguists and sociologists who can't figure it out. My best friend served a mission in Sweden and learned it fluently in 6 months. My other best friend served a mission in the Philippines and learned Tagalog fluently within about 8 months.

move to sweden for a little while and you'll have to learn then you'll have it in about a year. my friend did that, he's fluent now. if you try to learn it with out having anyone to practise it on all the time it will take forever!

It's got about 12 declensions or something, and the words are really long, but I know that it's harder than finnish but easier than hungarian.
