In the early days, it was legal; for meat hunters to hunt and sell game animals. This got way out of hand and as a means of controling the game and preventing it being all killed off, wild game animals were made illegal to sell in the market place. However, with a permit, a farmer or rancher can raise and sell game animals. While they come from wild stock, thery are actually somewhat domesaticated. You can find such farm raised game animals such as venison, quail, pheasant, etc. in some of the more upscale restaurants.

It is sold some places; you're just looking at the wrong store. Try to find a local meat processor. A lot of the time these places accept a portion of the deer as payment for processing the deer for a hunter. They sell the meat that they have left over to customers for profit.
FDA regulations prevent deer meat from being sold in a grocery store.

It is for sale here in Reno, NV. You have to get it from a real butcher shop and not your every day local grocery store though. Most hunters have their deer processed by a butcher or they do it themselves. Most if not all butchers don't sell deer meat harvested by hunters because the butcher has no idea how well the meat was cared for prior to its delivery to their shop and they can't really sell that to the general public. If you ever find some to buy and wanna give it a try, make sure you cut all, and I mean all, of the fat off first. If you get the fat off, then venison is delicious, but the fat is what gives it its gamey taste. Hope this helped.

Deer meat can be sold in certain situations. You can get a hold of Nathan at Nathan's Select Meats at jnathanjeffries@gmail.com to see about purchasing some.

The Deer are SO THICK in my next of the woods....They are hunted for the meat, and for the "hobby". I suppose that in some areas they are sold, BUT, due to the red tape involved- They aren't here.....AND in addition, the "road kill" deer you see everywhere would NOT be acceptable for sale or human consumption, and I know you get what I'm saying.....
I have LOTS of people who hunt for Deer.....Can get it nearly anywhere from them. Hope you can find some for yourself.
Good luck!

Unlike elk, buffalo and ostrich, there are not many deer farms .Though you can special order from a meat market, or most meat depts. at your local grocery store. Deer and antelope also have a more gamey taste than elk and buffalo due to what they eat.

Meat has to be FDA regulated to be publicly sold. So you won't see any wild game in markets or online. The places that sell any exotic meat like alligator or buffalo are regulated and inspected. Venison is good. The deer that is harvested where there is corn, apples, and other natural foods that we eat is tastier than the meat from remote WILD-DEERness
areas.

meat from animals that are hunted is not sold for consumption because it has not been federally inspected. they do sell deer meat in places from animals that are pen raised and when slaughtered they are slaughtered in plants and federally inspected but these are farm raised animals only not the type of deer that we sit out in stands or stalk and kill ourselves and these deer are usually a different breed not whitetails or mule deer. the are usually red deer

It's possible that you are permitted to hunt with a crossbow, and it's worth investigating. In many ways a crossbow is superior to rifles and they are very nearly silent too!
