Yes you can in most cases but lose some of the taste. You can dissolve a couple of table spoons of dark brown sugar into the corn syrup to get that richer flavor back.

Also whenever possible I recommend molasses over corn syrup. Corn syrup is harder for the body to digest and large amounts of it in the diet have been linked to liver disease. You can use un-sulfured molasses for a lighter taste.

I am a former chef and answered a question like this yesterday, and you can make a substitute of corn syrup and brown sugar.

Mix them 50/50, as the molasses is a mono sucrode, and helps keep the baked good retain there moisture, like with fruitcake, molasses cookies and the dutch hney cake, they almost absorb the surrounding moisture.

I really wouldn't as the molasses has a distinct taste and scent that is not carried over with corn syrup, light or dark.

No you can't, light corn syrup is completely different than moasses.
