A dog called a Jug or a Morkie or a Maltiepoo!
Which by the way I have no idea what they even are!

I've had several Labrador/ German Shepherd crosses and one Flat-coated Retriever Border Collie cross in the past! What would they be called now I wonder?

At one time when dogs mated with other breeds they were called mutts. You could adopt them at the pound for a reasonable fee. Now you pay big bucks for these poor little crossbreeds. My favorite would be a Shitzu and Poodle cross mix called a Shittipoo.

I don't care about the names- its only a bit of fun.
But it's when people start making millions from breeding these dogs as something 'rare' and 'special,' that annoys me.
I saw an advert in a dog mag today for miniature labradoodles (the new thing) selling for £950!! They were only F1 hybrids too! There's no history there such as with the Australian Labradoodles. They just bred their Lab and poodle together and are now charging extortionate amounts to make money. The situation is much worse in America. There are many established 'breeders,' (who aren't proper breeders in my mind, just dog-farmers and hustlers). When trawling the internet I have found several breeds I've never heard of before, including various cross breeds which people are attempting to turn into proper breeds, as 'the perfect family dog,' which is basically just an extremely expensive mutt bred to make money. All poodle- crosses just look like scruffy mutts anyway, so see no point.
I came across something called a 'Comfort Retriever,' which was a beautiful looking dog, but is merely a cross between a Labrador or Golden Retriever and a spaniel of some kind. I know there are such things as Sprockers for example which is often a cross between two working spaniels, and produces another spaniel which can also be used for work. However, a retriever and spaniel cross doesn't create another retriever. Especially since these dogs will never be worked, and since any type of retriever or spaniel, even including King Charles Spaniels can be used. They're not even real spaniels!! These new dogs are bred only for their look and the high price they're given.
Some of these cross breeds I feel deserve a chance such as the Carlin Pinscher (miniature rottweiler or mini Boxer). It is unique and could be established as a popular toy 'breed,' although I wouldn't want to see it KC recognised, as I feel only those with a real history deserve recognition.
I have to accept we are entering a generation where dogs are bred as novelties only. People don't even care if they can't show their expensive and 'well- bred,' dog, as long as it is rare and gets people's attention.

They will breed anything together just as long as they can come up with some "cutesy" names for the mutts. BTW, Jug I think is JRT and pug, Morkie is Maltese and Yorkie. People are dumb enough to pay big bucks for them so the people making these mutts will continue to do so. I have 2 mutts myself and love them to pieces. They are "heeladors", labrador and heeler mix......lol. I love my mutts. Plus they didn't cost me a cent. I saved one after it was just dumped along with her 2 brothers. I vetted them all and found homes for the 2 boys. The other one, I literally saved it on the way to the shelter where it would have been eithanized that day because it would have been an owner turn in. Both my mutts have been spayed.

Got no idea what any of them are I only know of a labradoodle or whatever it is.
All they are is Glamorised Mongrels with a shiny new label. Don't get me wrong I've had my fair share of rescue dogs which were mix breeds and they out lived all my pedigrees but paying through the nose for a mongrel is daylight robbery you could probably go get the same dog from the RSPCA and not pay nearly as much and still have a fantastic dog and give it another chance too!

LOL, A Bull terrier X shitzu would be really funny to see lol ( a bullshit pmsl)
or a chineese crested english bull terrier lol!

Or even a Pekepoo! Cross between a Peke and a Poodle.

They are laughing all the way to the bank.

Someone I know paid £1500 for a Labradoodle!
That's a cross between a Labrador and a Poodle.
Someone gives them these designer names and all of a sudden your crossbreed dog is worth a lot more.

I think its crazy!

What kills me is for years these "mixed" breed dogs have been called MUTTS, or Heinz 57, now suddenly they're calling them "Designer" breeds and people are now paying $1500 for a freakin MUTT and thinking that they have a special "Breed" of dog when all they are is a mixed breed. Anyone can take a purebred and breed it with another breed and give it a fancy name and advertise it as a "designer" dog, give it up...it's a freaking mutt.

I have to laugh because there are rescue groups for "purebred" dogs the only rescue group for "designer dogs" is the Humane Society, what does that tell you????

LOL I'm not quite sure of the first 2 either! The Mailtie is a Maltese and a Poodle mix.
I am getting more and more amused as to what "New" mix they will come up with and what they will call it.

It really sadden's me to hear about all these supposed "Designer" mixes and then learn how very badly they are bred and all the health problems that go alone with each and every one too!

Boggles the mind doesn't it!

Yeah, they're intended to lure the unwary into spending a lot of money for what is usually a very poorly bred dog, as you point out. At best, they're pretty silly.

I'm waiting for the Bull Terrier x Shih Tzu to hit the market.

There is a woman who walks her dogs past our house, and she said that one was a specially breed dog, but she couldn't remember the name of the breed. She said it was a half border collie half poodle. I said she had three options, the collidoodle, the poollie, or the one that we all know, the MONGREL. She didn't appreciate the third suggestion.

When you were asking about Jugs I thought you were asking this in the wrong section. It sounded like an "adult" question.

Normal people call their dog a blank and blank mix.

The other names are just plain silly. Maybe I was on to something - they ARE obscene!
