Christmas cake is either a steamed pudding with hard sauce, or a fruit cake, though each region has its own version of this. Some countries call it Pannetone(Italian christmas cake), or in Ireland its a dundee cake, with dried fruits, nuts. Then there is a trifle, so you see, its all about which region, country you look to for this. Its not just a white cake with canned frosting, NOOOOOO. Its something that is reserved for feasts, christmas.

A Christmas cake contains Rum, a fruit cake don't! A fruit cake isn't aged. A Christmas cake is aged! Many do pass off fruit cakes as Christmas Cakes.. if the price is too low it's likely a fruit cake not a Christmas Cake.

the way I comprehend that's that a black cake is a Carribean cake that makes use of a burnt sugar syrup that gives you it the diverse darkish shade and burnt flavor. The fruit is likewise soaked in rum (or some style of wine) and the cake after that's baked is soaked in rum and enable to age. Black cake is one among those fruit cake. Fruit tarts are created from fruit and nuts and that they each and every so often contain alcohol including rum (as above) or brandy. in case you ask my opinion, black cake tastes a lot greater effective than any widely used fruit cake.

Who knows? "Christmas Cake" to me is just a cake you serve for Chrsitmas. It could be anything from a yellow cake w/ white icing to fruit cake to a Buche de Noel. Christmas Cake is a pretty generic term.
