I always proof-read my questions and answers when I post ANYTHING on here. Typos are understandable, but I once saw a kid spell capitol 'capidle'. On a regular basis I see horrible spelling mistakes, incorrect punctuation, run-on sentences, ect. Either some members on here are too young for the forums, or our education system in America is a disgrace.
Plz proof read ur comments b4 u post! Tx! :)

I'm not saying "be perfect", I'm saying to use the tools you have available so you don't look completely uneducated. I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel strongly about the way my words represent me online...

I understand! Most of the things are typos, but I do think that capidle (or whatever) is an awful mistake! At my school, we always practice spelling and things like that. I think that is rediculous. I think that this is a nice post though. It is telling others you would like for them to watch out for their grammar, but you aren't being rude.

Actually, your spelling's very good! No, Yahoo Answers should not add spell check, as that would ruin all of the fun of trying to read badly spelled questions!

I totally agree w/ you...I have posted and answered this same question a number of times...many people claim that this forum is not a test to be graded, and I agree, it is not...
Here are a few reasons why spelling and grammar are so poor:
1] some people are too lazy
2] some people are ignorant
3] some people have no self pride
...Poor spelling and grammar is not only irritating, it's embarrassing, as this is a world wide website and the deplorable use of the English language makes Americans look stupid.

well i know from experience spell check does not catch all mistakes.also some of us are not really great with the computer ( i am getting better) and also English is not a first language for some people and there are children out there too.schools do not stress the importance of spelling anymore ,i know this from my granddaughters school work ,which i consider shoddy.if teachers and schools reinforced the importance of correct spelling and punctuation it would make a difference.i do not know if they are lazy or too busy accommodating illegals who cannot even speak the English and make no effort to learn.this is AMERICA our language is ENGLISH if you don't like it and will not learn it--leave go back to where ever you came from!!!! good riddance!

Firefox proofreads as I write, and I use the spell check.
Our Education system isn't all that great, but I didn't think it was that bad that people can't capitalize letters, or at least click 'spell check'

I agree, it's kind of embarrassing to see typos. Even if people using Y!A are young, it's still pretty easy to Check Spelling before you send an answer.

I don't think it's lazy as much as it's trying to hurry to get to the next question.
I sometimes find myself using your & you're....their & there completely wrong.
I do however always use spell check....it's a habit.

Some people do spell check when they submit their answers on yahoo, I know I do, I sure would not want anyone to think that i am not a decent speller. They would think that i am dumb, which i am not.
