In the 6 years that I have been married I have never made Thanksgiving or Christmas Dinner. We always go to 3 dinners (my parents', my father-in-law's, and my mother-in-laws) This year we are going to out of town for Thanksgiving to visit my husband's Grandpa who lives alone and I am going to be cooking Thanksgiving Dinner. I am a little intimidated because I've never cooked a BIG meal with so many different things before. I'm not sure what to make or where to start so I would love to see what everyone else is doing to get some ideas.

So what do you usually make (or what are you planning to make) for Thanksgiving this year?

I would make the white cake mix as directed then heat the cherries in a saucepan and pour them over the top. I can't garauntee this woud work, but I like to tinker in the kitchen and I'd try this: Put a can or cranberries in a saucepan. Add some ginger ale, sparkling water, or maybe some juice (pineapple, apple, cranberry, etc) if you have it. If not, a splash of water and some pear syrup. Stir it till the gel is melted. Taste it and add some sugar if it needs sweetening, maybe some cinnamon or nutmeg. Then I would drain the pears and put them into the cranberry syrup and poach them a couple of minutes in there until warm. You can even serve it over the yellow cake.

Because I assume that you will be doing all of the cooking yourself I would recommend not trying to make everything from scratch. I tried that one year and I had no time to spend with my family. Now I make maybe 2 or 3 things from scratch and cheat on everything else. This year I am having a fried turkey catered. Other than that I am making:
-Store bought mashed potatoes and adding cream and roasted garlic to make them taste home-made
-Gravy from the packets
-Making my own stuffing with store bought bread cubes
-Mashed sweet potatoes with honey and brown sugar
-Canned green beans
-Home made cole-slaw
-Store bought bread rolls w/ homemade cinnamon butter
-Homemade berry pies
Hope everything turns out great for you and good luck!

You can start by making the turkey.
Baste it every hour, and it won't be dry. Oh & Stuff it.
Make mashed potatoes, the best are the homemade kind.
Peel potatoes, boil them, smash them, add salt and butter.
I use mayo instead of butter cause it makes them creamier.
Make cornbread. I love the Jiffy brand. It's amazing.
You can make a green bean casserole, look it up on Google, it's quite simple.
Gravy, can be store bought I've never noticed the diff.. I'd get chicken gravy though, beef gravy makes me gag.
You can make apple pie, or cookies for dessert and you'll be set.

Good luck<3

lol, this will be much easier than u think....shove the turkey in the oven, follow the instructions please or u will have a disaster....peel some potatoes, boil them, mash them up and add butter and milk and u have some tasty homemade taters. Buy the turkey gravy in a jar (it's delicious) green beans, stovetop stuffing (add your own onions and maybe a little celery) throw some rolls in the oven and voila! traditional turkey day, drop by your local grocery and grab a pumpkin pie, no biggie it's not homemade u worked soooo hard on the dinner, most likely granny made dessert! good luck

Generally I make turkey and stuffing. However my husband now has a wheat gluten allergy so I have to change my stuffing recipe to one with rice. You can check with the grocery store, some will have the dinner cooked for you and all you have to do is pick it up.

Turkey, gravy, ham, marsh mellow salad, green salad, that's all I can think off. I know you mite be thinking why not have mash potatoes I would like to have them at thanksgiving but I'm allergic to potatoes so I can't have any food that has potatoes in it.
