You need to be really good in your maths, and take science and engineering courses. Aviation engineering would be the goal, and also take some piloting so you get to know the basics of winds and lifts and so on. You can start by building models and flying them to learn about design.

You need to get some detailed engineering knowledge to be a successful jet engine designer. Jet engines operate at very high turbine speeds (could be 150,000 RPM which puts enormous loading on to all bearing surfaces) and very high temperatures. You'd be looking at, maybe, 6 or 7 years of study to get the necessary qualifications. However, if that's what you want to do start looking for the right college and courses. Loughborough has a good reputation for aeronautics studies; some of our best aero engineers have studied there. Accept it will be a hard road to tread but, if you make it, the rewards are great in terms of job satisfaction and money. Good luck

Good grades in school will help you become a great engineering student but if I were you I would find out the address to Boeing in Wichita Kansas or any other plane manufactioner and ask them how they pursued their ambition. Bravo for you for knowing what you want. That is the first bold step. If you could find a role model or mentor in the Aeronautics field you would have someone very invaluable. Another idea is to locate a local airport and ask them, since they have pilots that fly in and out of their terminal everyday, what schools the best engineering designers for planes of any sort, go to. Good Luck to you.

first you need a serious degree in engineering next you need to go to the library and build a model learn the basics of flight and how it was achieved in the first place and then start small and build one. If you are speaking of models go to the Hobie shop they have what you are looking for. besides if you are able to ask this question on yahoo then you can look up all the vital info on the www. ya know!
