A 20 g rifle bullet traveling 205 m/s buries itself in a 3.0 kg pendulum hanging on a 2.9 m long strng, which makes the pendulum swing upward in an arc.
Determine the vertical and horizontal compnents of the pendulum's dispalcement,
vertical m
horizontal m

When the bullet strikes the pendulum momentum will be conserved. Before impact momentum: 20g X 205m/s = 410gm/s. After impact, 3,020g X V = 410gm/s. So V = 0.1358.

Then knowing m, & V, calculate the kinetic energy. The pendulum will continue to travel until all of the kinetic energy has been converted to potential energy. Use that to calculate the vertical component. Then Using the equation of a circle with a 2.9 m radius to calculate the horizontal displacement.
