I'm going to start going tanning at The Spa, and there isn't anyone around to really ask what to do.

I'm not even sure how to work it. My skin is already pretty tan, but I'm kind of naturally tan as well. I tan very quickly.

I got the funky eyewear, now what? Do I need to moisturize my body from head to toe before I tan? Should I cover my face with a towel or wrap my highlighted hair?

Sorry, I know it's a lot of questions but I don't want to screw up.

WELL.... YOU CAN PUT TANNING LOTION ON BECAUSE WHEN YOU GO TO THE SALON, THEY WILL TRY TO SELL IT TO YOU. ITS VERY PRICY!! TELL THEM YOU ALREADY HAVE LOTION. YOU CAN RESEARCH THE POTENCY OF LOTIONS LATER ON.
AND TANNING LOTIONS ARE VERY GOOD.
BUT IT HELPS ALOT TO HAVE MOIST SKIN.
YOU DONT HAVE TO COVER YOUR FACE, BUT IF IT IS NOT TAN ALREADY, YOU MIGHT WANT TO COVER IT FOR ABOUT 1/2 THE TIME.
I WOULD COVER MY HAIR.
ESECIALLY BECAUSE YOU SAY IT IS COLOR TREATED, IT WILL DRY OUT FASTER AND THE HIGHLIGHTS WILL GET LIGHTER.
MAKE SURE YOUMOVE THE EYEWARE AROUND YOUR EYES WHILE IN THE BED BECAUSE YOU DONT WANT TO COME OUT WITH RACCOON EYES....
HAPPY TANNING!

First of all, find a reputable tanning salon that will take the time to explain the tanning process to you. You can try to find one that has been certified by an agency such as "Smart Tan." You really should be able to have a consultation with the salon staff, it is their job to make you feel comfortable. I wouldn't give my money to a salon that didn't.

Secondly, you should use a professional tanning lotion to prepare your skin for tanning. The pro lotions will help your skin absorb the UV light to achieve a tan (unlotioned skin can reflect the rays!) The lotion should be applied everywhere that you apply regular lotion. People who have sensitive facial skin or are prone to blemishes can buy face specific lotions. The salon staff should help you pick out a lotion based on your skin type and what sort of results you are looking for.

You don't need to cover your face, but if you plan on tanning in the nude I would cover the areas which haven't seen the sun with a towel for at least half of your session time for the first few times.

Your hair stylist can tell you if your hair should be covered, just give them a call. My highlighted hair is fine (I own a tanning salon and tan at least once a week) but my sister's hair is much blonder and her the stylist recommends that she cover hers.

PS- Added to say that you should NEVER take your protective eyeware off to avoid tan lines (as Rhonda suggested!) if you get tan lines use a bronzer or self-tanner. If you take your eyewear off you are seriously risking your eyes!

Indoor tanning tip #1. Are you using any prescription medications?: blood pressure medications, antibiotics, skin problem medications are just a few categories of drugs you preferably should not be taking if you are tanning or spending lots of time outdoors. Refer to the photosensitizing medication chart in your local tanning salon to be sure the medications you are taking are not listed. These medications can effect the results of your tanning, making it more difficult to tan and you are more prone to burning. ((i doubt u have any of that but just in case))

Indoor tanning tip #2. Why you should always use a good quality indoor tanning lotion: It will help your skin to absorb the UV, which will aid in the tanning process. There are also special ingredients that stimulate melanin production, such as Tyrosine, which will give you the most out of every tanning session. Your skin tends to dry out during the tanning process and if you don't use a good quality indoor tanning lotion, your skin will exfoliate faster, become more dry and flaky, and you will lose your tan faster.

((usually in the salon they sell products to use while tanning and u need to buy them they will help ur skin and will help u get the tan that u want!))

So the bottom line: for a deeper, darker, longer lasting tan, you need to use quality indoor tanning lotion. It's best to apply indoor tanning lotion immediately prior to your session or 1-2 hours prior is even better if you can. Applying it ahead of time allows your skin to absorb the lotion better so you will get the best results from your tanning session.

((after tanning then moisturize))

hope this helps u

when you go they will give you all you really need and show you how to work the machine. at the spa they sell different types of tanning lotions that can be used in the bed but you don't have to use them. You don't need to cover your hair just put it in a high ponytail so it's out of the way. you don't need to cover your face either just put your eye piece thing on it protects your eyes from the rays.

I think you should get a spray tan instead.

Tanning beds have about 5 times the amount of UV as the sun and you will get wrinkles. If you dont believe me look at a picture of Donatella Versace. Do you want to look like her?
