I don't see any problem doing both, even in war. My uncles were all CO's in WWII. They were radio operators and ambulance drivers. My country doesn't ask me to not worship my God or to break any of his commandments, so how is there a conflict?

I'm not so sure they'll get the message that the incompatibility between theism and democracy is an impossible hurdle.
