can you help the sentence is "Barbados esta al este del mar Caribe" i can't figure out the "al" part

Barbados is to the east of the Caribbean sea.

In this form a is equivalent to the English "to" and el is of course "the." Hope that helps.

Oh and "is" is "esta" not "al."

If I remember correctly, 'al' is a contraction of 'a el,' or 'to the.'
