I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic and within the last two weeks the air bag light comes on and goes off, then stays on then will go off. Anyone elses had this issue? Any possible causes? Problems? What do I need to do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

the above answer is perfect. this is not a job for anyone but a dealer to diagnose. they will need to use the Miller tools airbag system load tool to diagnose most likely. they will scan it and go from there. the most likely cause is a bad clockspring in the steering column. it keeps the contact between the instrument panel wiring and the airbag. it would be about $200 installed. get it looked at asap. many people think that if the airbag light is on it cannot go off and that is only partially true. if the light is on because of a short the bags could deploy at any time all by themselves.

There is a problem with the airbag system. PLEASE. do not try to fix this yourself. Take it to your dealer, NOT A REPAIR SHOP, YOUR DEALER. They will have to plug into the airbag system with a scan tool to find out the exact problem. I stress the fact that PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR YOURSELF, you doing so could cause the airbag to deploy causing severe injury if you are on the inside attempting repairs. A airbag system is very sensitive and a static spark could cause it to deploy. then you would have to pay around $3000 to get a new bag replaced in the steering wheel. PLEASE, TAKE IT TO YOUR DEALER, they are the only persons equipped to diagnose any problems with your airbag. I own and operate a independant repair facility, I will not even attempt to repair them myself, I always refer my customers to their dealer.
