Cats can get "colds" and sometimes they are a result of a serious disease and other times it's a simple upper respiratory infection.
Either way, cats showing these signs need to be seen by a veterinarian to get the medications needed to treat it. If it goes long term it can be fatal or get to the point where the cat can't breathe through it nose, which means it can't smell, which means it can stop eating. It's hard to get a cat healthy again once it's reached this point so it's best to get started early.

Yes, there's a few strands of cold viruses that affect cats. If it's a bad infection, they will get runny, gooey eyes and a nasal discharge. It would be best to get them on an antibiotic to clear the infection. Cats tend to get this virus when around other cats, like being kenneled at the vets or impounded or if you have a lot of cats in your house. I'm not sure if they actually get "kennel cough" (bordetella) like dogs do.

I have 3 cats. If one gets a cold, I usually give it half of an asipirin. If it gets serious.....off to the vets....but if you don't want to go to the vets, call your local pet store.
Cats are very easy to take care of. If inside cat, no problem. You will need kitty litter, container, scooper, and a place to put waste...I use a small bucket and line the bucket with the plasti bags from a store ( put several in--on top of each other), and have a lid...after the bag becomes full pull it out of container--tie it-throw in garbage--make sure bags have no holes!

Yes they can.
Other than take it to a vet to have a flu jab (cat flu) What ever you give to a baby you can give to your cat/dog try a spoonful of 'calpol' if it will lick it off the spoon - good - if not mix a little into a small amount of food, try a little amount 3 times a day for 5 days, it should help, if not go to the Vets as it could be more than a cold.

cats get something similar to a cold. Having just been to the vet with 3 of my vaccinated cats. I asked the vet exactly what they had and she said " your guess is as good as mine" there are as many viruses out there that cause these symptoms all we can do is give them TLC like anyone with a cold and if they get a secondary infection antibiotics. so my house is full of much sneezing and coughing and nose bleeds. The smell of menthol permiates the air through vapourizers. because guess what. we got colds too. (not off the cats) time of year! lots of lergies about.
DO NOT GIVE ANY HUMAN PAINKILLERS TO A CAT/DOG.
ASPRIN AND PARACETAMOL ARE POISON TO THEM.

yes they can as well as dogs. My cat actually got a form of a flu that animals get. I took him to the vet and they put him on an antibiotic. They also told me to put him in the bathroom and run a hot hot shower and have him breath in the air. It is to help clear up the congestion

They contract cat flu- and this is serious. We found one in the snow 4 days after Christmas one year and we kept it on several cardigans in the boiler recess, gave it milk and a touch of brandy and it survived. Took about 3 weeks though!Good luck - you will have a great friend.
