It occurs to me that the exodus of ignorant, abused, peasants out of Mexico and into America (thus, their becoming felons in this country) needs to be addressed at the source... I am told that the Mexican government is racist against it's own people; corrupt, and that it has Mafia tactics. Okay. Why can't America, through all of its billions of tax dollars(which we are throwing at a useless war in Iraq in the name of "National Security"), redirect that money by backing some Mexican Freedom Fighters so that our borders can be secured, the Mexican government can be overturned, and Mexicans can be happier in their country and stay there? Simple, isn't it? What 's wrong with this plan? What would you do differently to keep Mexicans in Mexico?

FYI

I have no problems with legal Mexican immigrants in America...just the flood of illegal Mexicans into this country.

Its a Nobel ideal but the US Government and the rich and powerful of this country would never go for it. It's all about economics the rich get richer and the poor get poorer thing. This influx of cheap labor drives down wedges. It hurts the average citizen but its a windfall for the fat rats..Understand this; If the powers that be really wanted to stop illegal immigration they could do that today and send all the illegals home within 6 months....

Because the US government is too busy sending $1.4 BILLION to the Mexican government, that's why.

WE can't do anything about the Mexican government, the PEOPLE of Mexico have to, if they want any changes to actually take place. Instead, it seems that many of the poor and downtrodden are content to allow the Mexican government assist them in coming here. Did you know that in the past several years there have been over 200 incursions into this country by MEXICAN MILITARY, assisting drug smugglers to cross the border? At least15 Border Patrol personnel have died due to those incursions, 2 of them just this year, and many more have been threatened, and/or injured at gunpoint. I would call that a declaration of War, yet, though the US government knows about this, it's allowed to continue. We, as people, really can't do much, the government could but won't.

Part of it is the drug cartels. They make money by smuggling illegals across to fund their operations.
We can't be like communist russia was and put machine guns every 200 yrds, or blatantly massacre anybody. However, we do need someone in office who will actually enforce the law. Everybody calls McCain "mr amnesty", but he wants to have illegals pay fines, have businesses pay fines for hiring illegals and possibley close them down (which works really well), start a process tword naturalization, and send those back who refuse to do so and "get back in line". One of the FIRST things he's gonna do is >secure the border (s)< which is what everybody wants in the FIRST place. This is by no means amnesty, and we keep America what it should be. A nation governed by laws and we keep our legacy and tradition of freedom for those who desire it properly.

peanuthe: true, money doesn't fix everyting including the corrupt mexican gvt. However, they don't care about their corrupt gvt because they are the one making it so, HOW they make their money is the only thing that matters to them, including leaving a semi load of illegals locked inside to die.

Greed. If we get rid of the low-paid immigrants, illegal or not, pay wages would have to rise, and people are too gullible and believe that everyone wanting to come here only want a better life, which is not true, because some are criminals and are fleeing from the law in their own countries.
I would bring home every troop that is overseas and place them at the borders and completely close All borders until Mexico and other nations get it in there heads that America is Not for sale for any price.
Like you, I have no problem with immigrants, just the ones breaking the laws, along with any legal citizen choosing to break laws that are meant to protect the citizens.

You need to understand that Mexico is actually an oligarchy. A few in a group rule the country. They thoroughly support the trickle down theory of economics, but that means the money trickles down from the Government who collects the taxes to the large landholders where it tends to stay.

Everyone needs to read the Mexican Constitution. If you are on unemployment for six months without taking a job, you are disenfranchised... you loose you citizenship status, and you loose your vote. THEN you wind up in the slums, and your chances of getting out are slim.

Know this too.. the Catholic Church and the Mexican Government have just begun to supply family planning down in those slums. The women see their 'Macho' men come home for a little sex, and 10 kids later, (who have never gotten out of the slums) the woman dies. And it has just begun, and Mexico desperately needs to put those slum dwellers anywhere they can.. out of their country. Mr. Bush said he would love to have them... Mexico sent them north with a comic book on how to get over the border.
---------------------------------------------
We need to return the citizens to their country. As time wears on, they begin to understand their future lies in a Mexican Government where they have a voice, and a Mexico that they control. Tough job we are looking at.. it is what has to be done.

Look carefully at Ron Paul's position. Look carefully at Romney's position.

Money isn't going to fix their corrupt government and their corruption is at the core of this. America does send them money.....not to mention their own people here sending billions over. It's not fixing the problem because "money" isn't the real problem. Who has the power is the problem and what they do with it is...we have that problem here too. Getting worse with each passing day.

Loosewheel is correct. As a matter of fact we just pledged billions to Mexico to update and better equip their military. This same military that has shot at OUR Border Patrol and also who get rid of those IN Mexico who speak out. Like the Zapatista's. So it looks like we're in bed with this corrupt government doesn't it?

Mexico has its problems like any nation. But remember we let you into Texas. You're lucky we are not going to take it back by force.

the best possible solution to the immigration problem is one of such a simple plan we need to do the same thing we did to iraq and that is of course to invade the country and take it over make it our 51st state and then we would not have to worry we would all be citizens of the USA but of course as you say then we would not have our cheap labor or prices ect, though the general public should realize by now the price isn't so cheap when you think of the health care assistance programs ect that you provide for the cheap labor then to the taxpayer it is not cheap just to the large corporations
