It's very simple once you know the steps. READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY AND PRINT IT OUT.......

First Install XP in another drive other then the one containing Vista. Your will then get only Xp while booting.

This is because when u "INSTALL XP AFTER VISTA" ur boot manager will get altered frequently. In such case u can able to run only XP. In order to avoid those situation there is a software available which will simply add entry to the BOOT MANAGER list..so that u can use both operating system without any trouble.......

Now the problem is how to get Vista to show up while booting.

How? with the following steps;
Note: This is if you install XP after installing Vista.

1) Boot from my Vista DVD, perform, "Startup Recovery"
2) Restart, and Vista loads.
3) Download & Install EasyBCD from here: http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1
4) Run EasyBCD and goto; "Add/Remove Entries"
5) In the version drop-down menu select, Windows XP
6) Change the drive letter to one on which XP is installed, rename accordingly.
7) Hit, "Add Entry" and then "Save"

Voila, when you restart you will have the two options infront of you, i.e., if you want to boot into XP or Vista.

If you want to have dual install,or if you want to have XP alone then you will have to format the hard disk and create a new install using XP cd.
This should be possible if your computer can boot from windows XP cd, and when you can see an option to Upgrade/new install on the screen. In case you are not getting this screen, then if possible, take out the hard disk, connect to another hard disk as a slave disk and format it, then put it back in your computer and install XP on it

this is not as hard as most people make it out to be. oh and welcome to the vista upgrade.......... win XP

you will need a few things before you start.

you will need to acquire the drivers for your computer check with the manufactures web site. some manufactures have a XP disk that you can obtain for your model of computer that came preinstalled with vista.

and you will need a copy of XP with Key.

boot from the cd and do a clean install, that is format the hard drive and make a fresh (clean) install.

then get the updates and install your personal software.

time consuming but satisfying to be rid of Vista

Windows Vista has more security than the older version's, so we have to get past that,(same thing happens when trying to format WinXP over Win98, but not as bad). Go into your BIOS,(BIOS Setup Utility), you'll see how to enter, if you watch the computer start up. At the bottom will be F2 for BIOS Setup,(or some Function key, F1,F2,F10, or the Delete key). In BIOS try Advanced BIOS Setup,(or it may say Advanced CMOS Setup), by using the Up/Down Arrow key/s to 'highlight' it, then press Enter. This will take you into Advanced's sub-menu, where you should see Boot Options. Change the Boot Option to cdrom first: First Boot Device-cdrom,(or cdd, or it may have cdd/ide0 ) You change it by looking down at the bottom of the screen will it will tell you what key/s to use. May be the Page Up/Down arrow/s, or the Minus(-)/Plus(+)key's, etc. Then press the ESC key to backout of the submenu's to the main page, and press F10,(to save to CMOS), and then the y key,(for yes, they show a capitol Y, but it's lowercase) This will re-boot, or re-start your computer. Try to not to doddle, and get the WInXP disk in the drive. Should you miss this window of opportunity, no big deal, just go to Shut Down, and Restart.
