What do you mean reopen? It's always been open for registration. As far as opening a draft...No.

The selective service has always been opened, it does not mean a draft. For decades now it has been a Federal requirement that Men ages 18 register for the selective service.
The selective service and Draft are two different things.

All 18 year old males have always had to sign up for selective services. It's not reopening and there will not be a draft either, namely because we aren't that bad off right now and if we started teh draft they would bring in more dirt bags than we already have.

All of you baby-faces who answered this question and said signing up for the draft has never ended are wrong. The military draft ended in 1973,including registration.Richard Nixon stopped the draft and registration and he deserves credit for it.For seven years we lived in bliss until mister peanut Jimmy Carter began draft registration again in 1980.The moron who lives in the White House today has made certain that all of the positions on selective service boards are filled. He wouldn't do that if he wasn't planning to start the draft again and probably soon.True, the Generals don't want a draft but they aren't going to have a choice once the real fireworks start.Personally,I can't wait to see all of you Beavis&Butthead types get drafted.

it wouldn't surprise me . if i was a young man in the age range that could be drafted ... i would know what my options are like go to Canada who is a bit more level headed than we are here in America ? i 'd cross there / make the refuge /asylum type of paperwork and get a job doing whatever I could find and I'd be a good loyal worker / follow canadian proper citizenship requirements and pay all the taxes. I'd also consider other countries.
it is always a good idea to know what your options are . I would research it .. i would not go fight for this country for a war that i am morally opposed too. Don't count on the country ... you must count on yourself ! Nothing wrong with having a Plan A and B and C in place. Think about how you would really feel about this ? I know I would not want to go / and I know I would fight to keep my son or daughter out of this war.
i think iraq will go on and on . i think war is profitable / we need economic activity ... would not surprise me if this goes on years.

Sounds like he's pulling your dummy ! That's not to say that it couldn't happen, but it's doubtful with the country going into an election year. The first party to introduce the idea, might just as well hang up their jock strap, because the oppostion party would make hay out of it.
Oh yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if Hillary thought this one up too, she has a penchant for wanting to be first to the starting gate, even when the agenda is self defeating !

The US Military has learned that they are more efficient with fewer volunteers, than with higher numbers of people there against their will.
These scare tactics have been going on ever since the draft was eliminated, and they will continue to go on as long as there are elections.
Don't worry.

umm, if it were gonna reopen soon, you'd here a storm of media attention about it.
likely the guy was just expressing his opinon.
actually, US policy is probably gonna tend towards removing troops, instead of sending more. Whether or not it's a good idea, I don't know.
I made it easier for them though, lol, I enlisted, so they don't have to drag me in.
