I was prescribed Trazodone for my Bi-polar. I stopped taking it because it made me very; very sleepy and goggy. I couldn't wake up in the morning;and had daytime fatigue. I was like a zombie the following day. Prozac, an antidepressant didn't help either. One of its side effects is suicidal tendencies. Neither did Paxil.; an anti-anxiety.Psychiatrist said this was the worst kind of drug for my depression.
Now, I'm on Welbutrim and it seems to keep me on an even keel. The side effect of weight gain as with most antidepressants is minimal. I seldom feel like withdrawing into my own world of depression and crying episodes of the past. .

Let me start off by saying I worked evening shift for many yrs--and the night shift for over 10 years. Sleeping during the day is not always easy. Now, as you may know Trazodone (Desyrel) is a tetracyclic antidepressant used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. Perhaps the doctor who prescribed it is under the assumption that you have depression? Anxiety? or both. Now a psychiatrist is the specialist who would be the one to diagnose that--not a family doctor. Some doctors feel that Ambien is addictive. Some use restoril or a low dose of a benzo (klonopin or ativan). Unfortunately, benzos can be very addicitve as well. There are 3 things natural sedatives (besides benadryl, which knocks me OUT); Valerian Melatonin and L-tryptophan (which is also found in milk and turkey). You could try one of those. best wishes

The dose will differ for each individual and may need adjusting several times until you find which strength best suits you. All antidepressants take a minimum of three weeks before you feel the benefits so persevere with your medication.

Any time you have a question concerning medication, you need to discuss it with your health care provider. Everyone is different; has different needs and your doctor can guide you to the treatment that will help you without doing harm.

I don't think it's good for depression.i use it for panic attacks and it works well as long as you don't take it at night cause it will make you very groggy in the morning.
