I would say up to 10 years ut probably more often around seven. A lot of it would have to do with the area the deer was living in and, more importantly, what it's diet is. A plentiful diet that was easy on a deers teeth would result in a longer lived animal. Tooth wear and detriment is probably one of the biggest killers in the wild.

I used to hunt where the minimum buck you could shoot was 150 B&C, but exceptions were made for those 8 years or older, past their prime. Penalties for breaking the rules were pretty severe, so we were darned careful. I've also hunted areas where it was quite unusual to see even a four-year-old. It seems where hunters routinely shoot little six-point whitetail, they have a lot less chance of living to prime age.

Black-tailed (Mule): Same
