Go for before, if you get all the food out from between your teeth, the toothpaste can get there and kill germs , otherwise it's just on the surface of your teeth.

You want the fluoride in the toothpaste to make contact with as much of the tooth surface as possible...that is how it 'hardens' the enamel and helps prevent decay. So it follows that you want the tooth to be as clean as possible BEFORE you brush. It will also serve to clean the debris away that you have disloded when flossing. Finish the whole job off with some mouthwash...minty fresh breath!

I'm allowed to know this stuff, I'm a dentist!

I think most dentists would advise flossing first. That way you can remove what's between the teeth so that the toothpaste and dental rinse can get into those cleared spaces and do their job.

Before.. because any excess plaque and germs that get stuck on the surface of your teeth get brushed away and cleaned.
