It looks to me that just because somebody doesn't like the other's OPINION that God exists or does not exist, they rate people down. How overly sensitive.
I mean, it's okay to do so if they're CLAIMING that God does/doesn't exist (because there's usually no comprehensive evidence), but if not, it's just the answerers' beliefs and I don't think it's right to give them a thumbs-down.
What do you think?

Blueink - but the rating system is there for us to judge the quality of the answers, not whether you agree or disagree with them. Right?

yes, some of them don't even make sense. I mean, if someone asks, Do people in your faith sing songs of praise, and someone responds "yes", what is there possibly to thumbs down about?
I only thumbs down when people provide incorrect information, that go against facts. Or when they are just wasting everyone's time with a mean spirited a**h*le answer.

I think the "thumbs up or down" system exists for both agree/disagree, AND rating the quality of the answers. People's values & opinions will differ -- it's nothing by which anyone should be offended.

I don't use thumbs up or down at all except in three instances.
Instance 1: I really enjoyed somebody's post, I give them a genuine thumbs up.
Instance 2: I report, mention the report in my post, and give the user a thumb down.
Instance 3: Super long post all copied and pasted from a website. I thumb down just to make it disappear so I can see the real answers more clearly.
Apart from that, I don't even use the system.

Don't stress the thumbs down.
So what, someone disagrees with you. It doesn't hurt anything more than your ego and just for a sec so ignore it.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and you have the choice of whether or not it will effect you. Don't let it. This is Yahoo answers, nothing more.

My observation is that people thumb up or down as an "I agree/disagree." Kind of like majority rules.
Thumbs up or down should be for the quality and intelligence (or lack thereof) of the response. If someone makes an intelligent response, one should not vote down on it simply because they hold a different opinion.

Don't give a damn about thumbs down. The report ninjas are pretty annoying, though.
