Before all the fancy coffees were invented it came as either black or with milk. Call me old but I have got to say that I cannot tell the difference between a latte and a cappuccino (apart from the size of the container) and what do you ask for in a coffee bar if you just want a black cffee with a bit of milk in it?? (Yes yes I figure that you would probably just ask exactly for that but when was the last time you heard someone ask for one.) Any help??

A latte is steamed milk and espresso. To be specific the perfect latte is poured to have a half an inch of foam or less on the top. A cappuccino is foam, steamed milk and espresso. A perfect cappuccino is a half a cup of foam with the rest being espresso and steamed milk.

To be more confusing a latticino is halfway between a latte and a cappuccino. A perfect latticino is a quarter cup of foam with the rest being filled with steamed milk and espresso.

And you can always order a black coffee with milk. Or you can order a black coffee with room and add the milk yourself at the condiment station.

I worked for Starbucks and there's not a huge difference. Cappuccino has equal parts steamed milk and foam. Latte has only steamed milk unless otherwise requested. Both are made with Espresso shots (Really, really strong coffee.) If you want black coffee with alittle bit of milk in it simply ask for black coffee. Most places have the milk in thermos' sitting on the counter for you to add your own milk. If not, just request that they add alittle milk to it for you. : )

You wouldnt want a latte or capp. It is espresso and steamed milk!! Just ask for what you want,
"Black Coffee Please"
and they have a little station with sugars, sweet and low, equal, milk, non dairy creamer, and other such items and you can fix your coffee the way you want it.
Remember, alot of people dont consume dairy products so all coffee houses usually have the condiment stations!!
Alot people order black coffee...
I certainly do...
