You can call the credit card co at the toll free number on the back of the card and put a freeze on all charges above or beyond what was agreed. Give the card co a warning. Talk to a REAL person and ask for a written confirmation. Write down everything! The time you called, the date, the person you talked to...etc...

When you get an account statement from the credit card company, you will find instructions on the back of the statement. Write a letter to the company who took money without your permission. Refuse payment and ask for a credit. Send a copy of the letter to the credit card company, notifying them you do not owe the charged amount. Eventually, they will deduct it.

usually they record the conversation.... so if you go to the bank and tell them something is wrong, they should resolve it.

Best protection, is to only deal with proper companies, where they build their businesses on trust.

As regard evesdroppers.... not much you can do, maybe better to use a landline rather than hands free radio signal. If someone wanted to listen for your details they'd have to wait a long time at the telephone exchange !! so very unlikely.
