Altering an ID is a serious offense. Although a large percentage of us have probably had a fake id at one time or another, generally for purchasing alcohol, a fake id can be used for far more sinister acts. Buying firearms, opening bank accounts, etc.

If I were the responding Officer I would take the ID card, find out where the solider worked, Talk to his NCO in charge then fill him in on what happened and "suggest" you make that soldiers life a living hell for a month or 2. If the NCO agreed I would destroy the ID card and go on my merry little way. I think even the solider who tried this bone head idea would be happier scrubbing trash cans fro two months rather then getting locked up. However every officer has his own way of doing things.

sure it is possible. have him march his butt down to the nearest recruiter, and enlist! Why would your son-in-law need to have access to military posts and "etc"? planning an attack is he? That access is granted for people that earn the privilege! not for wanna-be commandos. in seriousness though, there are only 2 ways i can think of for him to gain access to the post. ONE - if he is the primary guardian for a child of a service member and is in the DEERS system. TWO - get a job as a contractor and the base or post is where he'd be working. But a 'contractor' or 'employee' ID is different from an active duty ID card, and that would not give him access to the PX/BX, exchanges, MWR facilities (bowling center, gym, theater, golf course), commissary, etc - so it would literally get him on, but little else. heck, if it were up to me, those type of jobs would only go to dependents, retired military, or current ID holders. but outside of those two - there is no way for him to get an ID card for access. the military would have no reason to issue him one, and if they issue one to him, then every other swinging dick that wants one could get one. so sorry - tell him to join up or marry military to get on base

ALTERING AN ID IS A VERY SERIOUS OFFENSE ESPECIALLY WHEN COUPLED WITH THE HOMELAND SECURITY ACT.

I WONDER WHERE THIS SOLDIERS BRAIN IS AT. HE CAN DRINK ON BASE AND BE 17? HE CAN INVITE YOU AND FRIENDS TO JOIN HIM?

PERSONALLY I WOULD AS A RETIRED MAJOR MP CORPS GET A HOLD OF THIS SOLDIERS SENIOR NON COMMISSIONED OFFICE (NCO) AND ASK HIM TO ADVISE THIS SOLDIER HE IS IN SERIOUS TROUBLE. BELIEVE ME THE NCO WILL TEAR THAT SOLDIER APART FOR BEING STUPID AND COUNSEL HIM ABOUT THE LOCAL LAWS, AND THE MILITARY UCMJ (UNIFORMED CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE)

THE SOLDIER COULD BE CHARGED AS A CIVILIAN WITH FALSE, ALTERED, FAKE ID AND HELD FOR THE MILITARY TO PICK UP. HE WOULD / COULD BE MADE TO STAND TRIAL AS A CIVILIAN FOR HIS ACTIONS CONCERNING AN ID CARD AND THEN CHARGED UNDER THE MILITARY CODES AS A SOLDIER FOR NOT ABIDING BY THE LAWS OF CONDUCT UNBECOMING A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER ETC. THIS IS NOT DOUBLE JEOPARDY. IT IS CIVIL AND MILITARY.
TELL YOUR FRIEND GOOD LUCK. LEAVENWORTH IS DOWN THE ROAD.
