Because calendars which predate even Judaism had seven days.

Oh, but if calendars which predate Judaism had seven days, well, that means judaism wasn't first, which means... Adam and Eve didn't exist.

Oops. Sorry, were you going to try to invoke the creation myth of your silly fables?

Oh, and if the week is supposed to be some hint of perfection... why is it that a year contains 52.17857 weeks instead of 52 or 53?

365.2499999 does not divide into seven day weeks evenly. Even ignoring the quarter day, 7 does not divide 365 either.

So much for the focus on the week.

The Babylonian 7 Tablets of Creation might be a clue. The ancients celebrated the coming of the planet Nibiru in 7 days of festivities commemorating their version of creation. From the planet Pluto inward, the Earth is 7th. It is the number assigned to Enlil (lord of command), the Anachim heir-apparent of Anu king of Nibiru. Later, the number led to the 7 days in a week.

Initially they knew seven planets going round the sun. One of them is the Earth.and other one is supposed to be a shadow planet. So they took remaining five planets plus the Sun and the Moon and made a week of seven days. Starting from the day of Moon which Monday and finishing with the Sun that is Sunday. In Hindi language you have names of the days directly pronounced with the names of the planets.

Ancient (Pagan) people had one day for each of the "planets" (that they knew about at the time). Each planet had a corresponding god or goddess:

Sunday = "Sun's Day" (Sun)
Monday = "Moon's Day" (Moon)
Tuesday = "Tyr's Day" (Mars)
Wednesday = "Wodan's Day" (Mercury)
Thursday = "Thor's Day" (Jupiter)
Friday = "Frigg's Day" (Venus)
Saturday - "Saturn's Day" (Saturn)

There's no reason for atheists to weep over any of that. The months are named after Pagan gods, too. Whoop-de-doo.
