I ask that you Endure me and my rather unconventional ideas...but Have you ever considered that maybe God was the 'Evil' One, and Satan was a type of modern day Prometheus.

My logic is this, the bible--the main source of info for believers, is claimed as "God's word", hence this is "HIS" side of the story. But we all know that to truly evaluate and judge a story we must hear BOTH sides of the story.
God frames the situation and 'claims' that Satan was rebellious, disobeyed, and was therefore expelled from heaven...

Maybe we should consider Satan's side, in heaven he was basically a slave, forced into servitude by a Tyrant known as God. Satan had no 'free-will', he had to obey god or be destroyed, tired of that pointless existence he decided to lead a revolt --similar to the American Revolution when they were being oppressed by the monarchy of Britain.
Maybe history should rewrite Satan as a hero, and God as a Oppressive Tyrant that demanded absolute slaves.

Choice, Free will...good as well...
Fire...an allegory for the latter?

Interesting. I've always been turned off by the slave-like attitude of many theists. Your question gave me a view into how that kind of thinking might have come about. Thanks.

Oh, and I like the entire analogy, as well, and agree that "Satan" really is the "hero" of the story.

I've given you a star.

It's an interesting question, and one worth thinking about. Satan is a very human character in that rebellion is a natural trait. No one necessarily likes to be told what to do all the time, especially when the best answer is 'because I said so'. Free will is one of the best parts of being alive, that you can choose to be whoever you want given opportunity and determination. However, it's also hard to sympathize with Satan given that even if you look at everything from an outsider's (ie, non-christian) viewpoint, he seems to have only taken up the stance of doing everything wrong because he's been told not to, rather like a rebellious teenager disobeying their parent for no other reason than because they can. He seems to have acted in the way he does for no reason other than spite. A true Prometheus would rebel against the higher power because it's the right thing to do, not because it's the exact opposite of what you were told.

So you think the wisdom contained in the Bible was actually Satan's or false because God tricked Satan? Tell me what is your definition of a tyrant? When did Satan give mankind an offer of truth blessings or a gift of any sort? Tell me when he has put anything on the line to benefit humanity?
Yes I see now that his every good deed has been thwarted.

Nope I can't buy into your idea. God is good and satan is evil. In the beginning satan had an exalted place in heaven. he was highly gifted and respected. When he decided he wanted God's place/worship he staged a rebellion with 1/3 of all the angels. he had free will and he chose to rebel. God was no tyrant. He is a loving Creator.

I've encountered satan and God both in this life. I was abused and assaulted in my own family from early on in my life. Jesus was the one who rescued me when I decided to kill myself. He has been good to me for 37 years since I met Him and even before I knew Him He was good to me. He has treated me with kindness and respect and companionship. You really have it all wrong and satan is the evil deceiver and thief, destroyer, murderer. My relatives were into satanic worship. They used us kids as tools in their "worship"; we were beaten, assaulted, terrified. I see a clear distinction between God and satan. satan probably laughs to hear you attribute God's strength and power to him and not God. You have bought into a lie and I truly pity you. Someday soon, when you have a big problem I recommend you pray and ask satan to help you and then see if he helps you make "fire" and deal with your problems.

No they are not. As one person said, Lucifer was the shinning star, in one verse of the bible the ONLY verse of the bible which uses Lucifer (or at the least the one of many versions there are out that that I just happen to have) it says that god told Lucifer to "go back to the earth from whence you came" The only shinning star there ever was and the only person ever made from the earth was Adam, thus Lucifer IS Adam, he was an angel in the eyes of god that fell when he ate the forbidden fruit. Satan is the king of hell, a tempter. Lucifer and Satan are NOT the same person

I have actually thought about it that way before. I don't believe the Bible is true or that most things in the Bible happened, but I really do enjoy Biblical Mythos.

Prometheus was a titan who gave humanity the power of healing and fire.
God was an evil dictator who taught us to kill each other over land.
Satan or Lucifer(lightbringer) tried to teach us that god was evil and we shouldn't worship him so she was cast down and bad mouthed.
light is associated with knowledge.

There are already a few books out there which explore that idea. "The Devil's Apocrypha" is one, "Memnoch the Devil" is another. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more.
