I'm thinking of adopting a dog. I like the name Jesus. Not pronounced Hey-soos, but Ge-zus. I believe Christianity is bunk, but Jesus is a pretty snappy name. What do you think?

Do you know how many gods, goddesses and saviors we have in the world. We even pulled the old ones out of the mothballs of time. It's no different than calling your dog Zeus or Morrigan or Isis or Osiris. Jesus is just another name. It was quite common in the middle east at that time. Do what you want. If people are that thin skinned just let them live in their misery. Don't take on their problems.

I think it is rather disrespectful. But it reminds me of a joke I'll tell you. A thief breaks into a house. In the dark, he hears a voice "Both Jesus and I are watching you". He gets scared, and throws his torch light around, but sees no one. Then he hears the voice again: "Both Jesus and I are watching you". He turns the light upwards, and sees a parrot. Relieved, he asks the parrot "What's your name?". The parrot says "Kleopatra". Kleopatra? says the thief? IS this a name for a parrot? And the parrot says "No, but Jesus is not a name for a rottweiler either!"

I would have to politely disagree with you. If you want to name your dog that, well, whatever trips your trigger. I had a friend who named his cat, "Shame".

Well, I guess if it is spelled differently, it's fine. But if you use the word Jesus and pronounce it as Jesus, I think that is not such a very good idea.

Do some people pronounce it 'Hey-soos' do they? I've never heard that.
No reason why not, if you like the name. It is only a name. And something tells me you'll get a kick out of people being offended....but, hey......Dog is already God spelled backwards, so you wight as well name a dog after the 'son' of God! lol
I would love to hear peoples' reactions! You are a STIRRER!
