Luke 13:1-5
1 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all [“likewise,” NASB] perish. 4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all [“likewise,” NASB] perish.”

There are many questions that are directly tied into that one, but we will focus on this one particular question for now.

i asked a similar question a long time ago on this site, but i never really got a straight answer. i asked why people attribute the beauty of nature to mother earth, while they call natural disasters in which people are hurt and/ or killed ''acts of God.'' i never got a good answer for that one...

i think when people mess things up in their own lives, or when random things happen, it's simply a matter of passing the buck. people don't want to be held accountable for their actions unless they're doing things right. when they ARE doing things right, they sometimes tend to forget that God allows certain things to happen in order for us to grow, to become more whole, and to learn to lean on Him for ALL things. as for me, when things start going wrong, i start praising God all the more. there are enough instances in the bible where people had to go through hard times just to be blessed. the israelites had to wander through the desert for forty years before they finally made it to the promised land. joseph had to be sold into slavery in order to save his family. the list goes on and on... so i just take everything as a sign that God is about to do something great in my life. rather than blaming Him for the hard times, i thank Him in advance for the blessings that will follow.

Because he is an easy target. You don't have to look at Him face to face. You don't even have to listen to his side of an argument.

The real question is, why do the same people who blame God for tragedies, DO NOT credit God for the blessing and good things in their life? It should go both ways. But people like that don't , because they look at the glass half empty.

The Bible is a manipulated text - or a 'construct'. It is not the Word of God, nor is it a book of truth, etc. The history of the Bible illustrates this.

People use God for things they don't understand.
Most accidents are man made - that someone was responsible for it.
Natural disasters are caused by nature - a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, if you are killed by one...

This goes for weird accidents too...

With a birth defect - are you saying that God made that?
Therefore God is fallible...
It is nonsense to even think that way - that God was responsible.

Note carefully that Jesus asked the questioners if they thought the Galileans were WORSE sinners than the others of whom He spoke of. In other words, it was because of their sins that disaster had stricken them.

The Galileans in question had used the sacrifice feast to riot and rebel against the Romans who had conquered Galilee and Judea in 63 B.C.

God had allowed the Romans to conquer Judea and Galilee because of their sins and rejection of Him, and rather than return to Him and ask forgiveness, the Galileans had decided to riot, bringing Roman soldiers down on them and causing some of them to be slaughtered.

People are always looking for somebody to blame. God is an easy target, because although many believe in Him, few have seen Him, but most who believe in Him agree that He has all power. Others just don't realize that some things aren't caused by God per se, but just happen. They want to be able to blame everything on God, both good and bad.

God is sovereign. Nothing happens apart from his holy will, including tragedies. The passage quoted refers to, "worse sinners" and emphasizes, "Repent, or you will likewise perish." Tragedies are God's wake up calls. Some people listen; some people ignore them. Some people turn from sin and turn to God through faith in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ; others do not.

WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES

▪ God does not cause the bad conditions in the world.—Job 34:10.

▪ By calling God a liar and saying that He withholds good from His subjects, Satan questioned Jehovah’s right to rule.—Genesis 3:2-5.

▪ Jehovah will use his Son, the Ruler of the Messianic Kingdom, to end all human suffering and to undo its effects.—1 John 3:8.

...People blame God out of Spiritual ignorance... "they" don't have a clue who God Is and have been blinded by so many "religions" that the teaching from their "religions" have diluted the Deity of God... Remember, this is NOT Gods world... it was given to the price of the power of the air...the devil... God did, however, make a Way for us to get thru all this "crap"... consider reading the Book of John to find out how... great reading... Keep the "religions" at arms-length, "they" all want to tell you how "they" know what is best for you... get to know who God thru His Word... not the "rants" of old-man and long past "religious" loons who just entrap the spiritually ignorant....

If you are in a room with a 3 year old and a loaded pistol, awake and aware, and the kid picks up the gun and is playing with it and blows his brains all over the wall...

Why should I not blame you?

By being there, you would have had the means, motive, and opportunity to prevent the needless death and destruction.

Are you claiming that God is lacking the means (isn't omnipotent), motive (isn't benevolent), or opportunity (isn't omnipresent)?

If he has the means, motive, and opportunity, then yes, yes he does deserve the blame, just as you would if the child you were watching killed himself, even if the event is randomly occuring.

When we atheists do that, it's supposing for the sake of argument that the god in question is real. It's helpful in pointing out the fallacies in the major religions. But I think you already knew that.
