What chores should an 8(almost 9) year old should have?

We have 2 dogs, and a 12 year old daughter. What chores should I assign her?

What chores should i assign them oth? Sorry worded it wrong! : )

Nine year old:
clean up after dogs and feed them,
make bed,
keep room clean,
clean up bathroom after showers (towels and clothes in washing; wipe countertops),
set and clear dinner table 3 nights a week
load dishwasher or dry dishes and put away, everynight
help cook one or two nights a week.

Twelve year old:
make bed,
keep room clean,
clean up living room and do dusting
set and clear dinner table 3 nights a week
help cook dinner 3 nights a week
help load dishwasher or wash up dishes on nights she is not cooking with you.

They both should be in charge of putting their clean folded clothes away, dirty clothes in hamper, shoes in rooms, school bags away, empty lunchboxes etc...

I would allocate pocket money for chores, appropriate to their age. For each thing they don't do they get 25c taken off their pocket money.

Put the list of chores and roster for cooking, dishes and dinner table on the fridge that way they can always see if it is their turn so no-one gets it wrong.
Make sure the chores are fair and equal but appropriate for their age. Reward a job well done with an allowance. Extra allowance for extra jobs like washing dogs, cleaning car, mowing lawn etc....

the 12 year old should do the following.

help cook dinner 3 days a week.

wash dishes

fold laundry

sweep kictchen

clean bathroom

walk dogs 3 days a week

the 8 year old should

walk dog 3 days a week

put laundry in washer with help from you

feed and water dogs

take out garbage with assistance

set table for dinner

wash table off after meals.

both should clean their rooms and put clothes away.

Most of this my 6 year old nephew does except cook and he gets .50 a day if he does all chores.

When I was 12, I was expected to load the dishes in the dishwasher atleast three times a week. I got to pick my days, but I had to do them right after dinner.

Also, another great chore for a 12 year old girl would be that she has to help you make dinner 2x a week. This helps her learn how to cook, gives you mother daughter time, and also gives her a great feeling of accomplishment.

At that age my sister (4 years younger) and I did the dishes every night. That's all my sister had to EVER do. Being the youngest she got away with lots. I all so fed our dog when I was 12. Apart from keeping our room clean that was all till I was 13 and went to high school. The I helped with the house work, cleaning bath room and dusting.

I rather have 2 boys. 8 & 10 They do the dishes two times a week (each and each), a load of laundry as quickly as a week (from beginning as much as end, meaning putting them the place they belong). They sweep daily. They make the main mess of my bathing room sink, so as that they commerce weeks cleansing that on a regular basis. one in all them clears out each and all the garbages on a regular basis, mutually as the different makes effective their canines have foodstuff and water. they also have a miscellaneous chore daily, that could nicely be something i want executed.

Cleans litter box
Cleans room
Loads and unloads dishwasher
vacuums
wipes down bathrooms

She gets a quarter for each job she does each day......so at the end of the week she is making about $5.00

why would you ask what an 8 year old needs to do when youve got a 12 year old? lol
an 8 year old should need to dry dishes or dust or vacuum a bit. clean windows :p simple things that are hard to mess up on.

My son is 9 years old and these are the things he does:
Makes his bed, gets dressed, gets his own breakfast, keeps his room clean, sets the table, clears the table, takes the trash out and container back in, cleans up after himself, and any other things we tell him to help the family.

9-year-old: Homework, set the table, clear the table and do dishes at least 3 times a week, make her bed, fold and put away her laundry, clean the bathroom countertop and mirror.

12-year-old: Homework, cook dinner at least 3 times a week, clear the table and do dishes at least 3 times a week, make her bed, fold and put away her laundry, vacuum and dust at least 3 times a week, clean the bathtub, toilet, and floor.

That's a decent start, I think. I had to do a lot more than that, but these days, kids seem to think they don't have to lift a finger.
