Well, I haven't noticed anything in the ten commandments(God's laws) that really isn't in my best interest in the long run. Oddly, there are a whole lot of laws that mimic the ten commandments. Who are you most interested in pleasing? How do you feel about your behavior? What do you think about what it takes to be good? And lastly to answer your question NO but only if you want to get into God's heaven(it's his world and he makes the rules, one of them being that you have to believe in him and make a serious attempt to follow his laws).

Yes, you must obey God. You must never allow a moments doubt to enter your brain. No matter what the reality is you must believe that God and Satan with all the devils are absolutely and undeniably real.

God's law basically consists of two Laws: Love the Lord, and love the neighbor(everybody). If you do those things you are obeying the law of God, and you are a Really good person.
'Nuff said.

God says to kill people. The better question is: are you really a good person if you DO obey God?

Last time I checked, no one has ever received direct instructions from God. So how can you obey God if he/she/it has never told you what to do (or not to do).
But just in case, if God ever tells you to do something you should do it....I hear he can be quite a hothead, ya know with his whole wrath and stuff.

Just obey the golden rule, don't hurt anyone and don't steal from anyone. Help people whenever possible. And be honest.
Do those things consistently and you are a really good person.
You do not have to obey anyone but yourself.

It is interesting that the persistent religions tend to include a moral code. Unfortunately, belief in God (assuming you mean the Christian version) also requires damnation of the nonbelievers.
If you damn others, are you a good person...?

good which is equivalent to righteousness is the absence of the serpent seed, or the 'obedience/exaltation' of the human will.
If you are totally surrendered to the Father, and you are completely resigned to do His will, then it is only the time that you are considered 'good' in God's eyes.
All of us are sinners, that's because of an inherited sin from Adam and Eve, and it is only through God's mercy that we are able to take ourselves out of this curse.
