Because we only get one body per lifetime.
You treat your body good and it will work for you not against you - fight diseases better, look better and healthier, live longer and better quality life.

I make my living off of my looks, so if I don't stay healthy then I won't get paid! LOL

But really, being in good shape opens up so many doors. I can participate in and enjoy all of the outdoor activities and sports that I love, and I can actually compete in them too. Who doesn't like to win? Also, my energy level is great. I can hit the gym in the morning, go to work, do some volunteer work afterwards and I'm still ready to go out and have fun in the evening. I have friends who can barely handle going to work everyday because they're out of shape and always tired.

Also, I get to date really hot guys. And I get lots of attention when I go out, it's fun! Not to mention, I'll probably live longer and get to do cool things like meet my grandchildren.

With all the benefits there are of having a healthy lifestyle, I can't understand why anyone would choose to be unhealthy.

Hah, there are many reasons.

For starters, being healthy - eating right and exercising regularly - makes you feel better both mentally and physically. Your metabolism goes up which lifts your mood. You physically feel better when you are eating nutritious foods because your organs are all getting everything they need. You look better physically, which is a huge mental boost as well.

Secondly, we only have one life, so why should we shorten it by being unhealthy? We will obviously live longer with fewer health problems if we lead healthy lives. And it's much easier on our wallet, especially later on, when those health bills may otherwise be piling up.

Finally, it's important to be healthy because it portrays you as a more fit person. This will attract others to you, and when more people respect you (for whatever reason), the happier you will be, especially with your mate.

first of all, i am the "type" who has a sweet tooth and can gain weight so easily without any extra effort, which means, it is harder for me to stay healthy :-( but still i try to be disciplined and be in the healthy weight zone, because of the following reasons :

1. I really feel "unhealthy" when i gain weight. my heart beats faster when i climb stairs, my knees feel that strain when I use the treadmill, its difficult to bend and do some "heavy" gardening work like moving stones, breaking a patio etc., thats when i really felt strongly how unhealthy i have become and decided to get healthy... (2 yrs back).

2. I enjoy strenuous hiking / backpacking like grand canyon rim-to-rim, half dome, mt. Whitney and what i realized was, if I am just 15 lbs lighter, that will save my knees which can experience a pressure as much as 10 times that weight which means i will feel better and enjoy the hike/backpack more.

3. finally, it pays to be healthy. if we are unhealthy for most part of your life, it can cause some health problems that can plague you for the rest of your life. like, I have seen closely, how diabetes can affect your life, like you cannot eat more than 40 grams of net carbs per meal and you have to keep monitoring your blood glucose level constantly, wounds in the skin might not heal as quickly etc., and I feel that it is better to work now and avoid it so that I can always enjoy life in moderation rather than living with lot of such restrictions.

also, i feel that, when we are young, i think it does not matter much about what we eat since our body can repair itself very well. but i think if we develop good eating habits and exercise habits when we are young, then its easier to continue it as we age and it will really pay off later :-)

I want to do it for 2 reasons, both which make me feel better. One is to reduce my risk of cancer and diabetes, the other is to make myself more attractive. It helps me, and I like doing that.
