Sometimes I detest my family. They force me to spend time with them every single day. My dad forces me to kiss his cheek everyday, and I quote, "At least 6 times a day," eventhough I'm 14 now. They don't want me to be a writer, they want me to do something "useful," like a doctor or a lawyer. They force me to cover my hair when I go out because of a religion I don't even believe in anymore. They window shop for an eternity and I'm not allowed to go anywhere but stay there, watching. Now they're taking the whole family on vacation to next month. I HATE traveling. Every aspect of it. From the long hours of flight, to the half-assed stares I get from the local people because I'm a foreigner. Not to mention that they won't let me bring my laptop to write, and God knows I can't write on paper. And I have to celebrate my birthday there, instead of here with my friends.

I have an attitude, I have been told countless time that I do, so I know that. So how do I change?

I can't write on paper because I'm a b*tch, there I said it. If I can change my ways, I can probably do what they want and be a doctor or lawyer.

I already know I'm a bad person, repetition isn't necessary.

well as a young teen, as once i was. of course, i understand every emotion you are having, your 14 and you have every right to
be pissed off. BUT your family is from a
different place and a differnet time. well
welcome to your teenage years, EVERY
young teen feels the same you do, trust me
i dont care where your from.our parents
embaresse us and we want to be with our
friends. i do sympathize with you, you have to kiss your dad 6 times a day and cover
your hair, but it is your religion and your dad loves you and is giving you the best of both worlds, your on the comp. you have many
friends its sounds like.so you have all freedoms of an average kid, BUT he
doesnt want you to forget where you came from and thats not a bad thing.
think of all the things your family has done for you. your here your going on vaca
there are many people who would give anything to be in your shoes..
i hope you work things out
and good luck. as you said not me
attitude problem
you really dont
your a good kid you will have fun with your family on vaca. and as for people with
stares, they are ignorant, enjoy life, enjoy your family, in 19 years they will be the ones
at your side, no matter if its your graduation for being a doctor or your preview of your first book signing. i wish you the best....

Hate to say it, but Cutie is absolutely right.
I wish I had a laptop computer to write on when I was 14...and to be able to travel?

Probly a stupid question, but why can't you write on paper? It is everywhere and if you can afford a laptop, you can afford $2.00 to pay for a pad of paper and a pencil even if it is from the hotel etc...
Or, here's a thought...If you want to be a writer, you have to have the experience, and to get that, most writers travel so that they can be well informed about a subject or place...
My opinion

i used to b in ur shoes. i am 26 now, married 1 kid, a dog and a cat. i didnt know it 10yrs ago but i get it now. i've been through a lot, my daughter was 2lbs at birth, open heart surgery at 6 months old. my family was there 4 us from day 1. she is 8 now. family is so important. friends, boy/girl friends come and go but ur fam will always b there. do ur writing on the side and use that "useful" something as your way to get money, support yourself. put yourself in your parents shoes..when or if you have a child what would you want for it?

I don't know what your cultural background is, but sometime you need to just adhere to the rules.

When you're old enough to break away, do it. But until then, say thank you to the Lord above for having all the opportunities you have.

I would have given a lot to be able to travel and have all you have!!!

Just be thankful, this may also help you change your attitude!

If you really wanted to write then nothing in this world would ever stop you. and writing on paper would not mean anything to you. You do not have the real intestinal fortitude that a real writer has. Some famous and brilliant works were started on paper napkins....

Every member of a joint family has certain responsibilities towards other members of the family. No one can decide to be self centered and look upon his/her own attitudes in any selfish way.Never forget what others have sacrificed to bring you up to the present position.Where is heaven ? Heaven is amid such families where each member looks after other members selflessly. I hope you got my point and try to bring heavenly atmosphere in your family.

It's been said that in order to be a good writer, one must suffer. It sounds like you're doing a great deal of that now. You're on your way!
