I use markets, you literally pay the wages of the trader so they are going to really appreciate your custom. (but don't annoy them, no boss=no inhibitions) ;-)

If things carry on as they are with most people using supermarkets for their goods, there will be no markets, & then the supermarkets will 'rule the world' & will be able to charge whatever they want to.
The customers will not have a choice any more.

My "Local" supermarkets were Tesco, Sommerfield and Waitrose
The Latter allegedly being the "Posh" Is too expensive without giving you the type of extra that you would expect. (Except the shopping bag which should prove you are elite)
Sommerfield is very limited since the one here is only a small one. (Similar to a small SPAR).
Tesco is in the next town and has an excellent Bakery and the best Wine rack around. Use to be very good, until they realised they could do what they wanted and still be crowded.
I almost believe that they follow me a stop stocking all the items that I use most. Mostly plain uncooked food such as cod, plain yogurt, plain common rice Etc.
The old attitude "The customer is always Right" does not affect Tesco staff. Some of them are very nice but only a few.

I take my very limited patronage to LDLE. IT is a much maligned chain but there I can find most things I need(Some of which i should go to different delicatessens shops) and the price is very reasonable. So I use the "Big Boys" only to top up my shopping.
I have always advocated the voting with your feet attitude.

...And everything's seasonal so I can't find duck legs around Christmas (because it's not near Chinese New Year) and I can only find wild rice when they want to stock it ... Fairly typical whether it's Asda, Sainsburys', Tesco... not like that at Waitrose I must say. Here's my plan: boycott the lot of them. I'm going to empty my freezer and use most the stuff from my cupboards and do shopping like Mother did - every day or every couple of days locally. Food will be fresh, walk will be good, choice will probably be better. Why should these indifferent greedy mega stores continue to get our custom?

Asda's gone downhill since wally world took over. I used to go to the one in Sheffield (Handsworth?) and loved their pizza bar where they fix pizzas for you. Too bad no one does that here *sigh*. I also miss the curry counters at Sainsburys!!

So that is better, but whether its Tesco, Safeway/Vons/Tom Thumb, Kroger, whatever, they never put enough people on the checkouts, and generally only stock up once a day and only when an automatic shipment arrives for a product.

Morrisons was the worst about that!!

Yes in Asda, Tesco, Sainsbuy's and Morrisons and I thought it was just a problem in Liverpool, I have noticed that tesco on the whole seems to be getting better.

I find the same thing in the large DIY stores but again B & Q seem to be improving

I have to shop at Somerfields. They are the pits! No other supermarket can be as bad as them. Basic hygiene in the store is awful. Checkout staff aren't even trained how to wait until a customer is ready to pack and pay for their goods- often your stuff is piled next to the persons' in front of you. Most staff don't even look you in the eye, or say hello, and on top of all that, they're expensive!

Actually for Sainsburys that is very bad. Nowadays I tend to do most of my shopping at Tesco and they are very very good there shelves are also full and you can find people to ask for help etc. Also at busy periods they tend to have most if not all of there checkouts open.

However I have noticed that they do tend to over-change so you do have to look at your receip carefully

Is this new to you? lol

At just about any large chain store anymore, the employees are paid as close to minimum wage as possible, and with that in mind the workers there are going to be either high school kids or people who aren't very bright/ambitious...And not very customer friendly.
