How does the wording of this invitation sound? Which is better, "being got up" or "being held"? Any suggestions for improvement? (Please note that marriage will be held a few days before the reception>)

I hope you don't mind that I re-write it for you...
"It is with great pleasure that we invite you and your family to the reception being held on Sunday, January 13, 2008, at Centenary Hall, Calicut... " Don't forget to list the last names of Salim and Salma.
Hope this helps a little.

The wording below is a little better as a few few of the suggestions already offered. I'm not sure of customs in India but in Britain and America it's usual to give the parents names of both bride and groom.
It is with great pleasure that we invite (Name of invitee) and family
to the reception being held
on Sunday 13th January 2008
at Centenary Hall, Calicut
to celebate the recent marriage of our son Salim to Salma, daughter of Mr & Mrs ( inlaws name here)
Mr & Mrs Ali

I'm very much in agreement with qwerty's answer. I don't believe being got up is proper, and I've never heard the term before. I hope this helps.
