Dysthymia is a "mild" depression, whatever that is. I never liked the diagnosis myself.

Why not talk about this to your MD. Depression is a medical disorder. Plus, some physical issues can cause sadness and lethargy.

Type "dysthymia" into Yahoo! web search; in the many informative links that come up, wikipedia has a good summary and an outline of the symptoms and characteristics that a psychiatrist uses for diagnosis.

To me, dysthymia, which has one characteristic of being a loss in personal pleasure in life, is just due to a "shi**y" outlook on life. Apart from the fact that one knows when one feels down or bad self diagnosis is usually wrong and may be counterproductive. A dysthymia diagnosis requires the symptoms persist for over 2 years. If you can certainly say you have been unhappy continuously for over 2 years it may be you should see a Doctor or at least a priest or parson.

Otherwise just "get out of the rut you are in"; depression or sadness is a god or evolution given emotion to signal one to change course. The path you are on is not good for your well being.

Forgive me for being preachy, good mental health, peace and Love!
