I already know that I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and I have been to the doctor countless times for it. Problem is now it has went the opposite direction. I had the Diarhea side now I have both Diarhea and Constipation, no matter what I eat I get sick. Now it has gotten so bad that I can't eat. I'm never hungry and just to look at food it just about makes me sick. I know I'm not pregnant so that's not it. What should I do? I have lost about ten lbs. in the last two weeks and I'm always really tired. I know I'm not getting the nutrition I need but I don't know how I can get that if I can't eat. Please let me know what I should do. Thanks for the replies.

Hi Keesher. Have you been tested for Celiac Disease? This would explain ALL of your symptoms and it is often 'misdiagnosed' as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS is not a true diagnosis, but rather, a label given to patients when the doctor cannot diagnose the cause of chronic bowel symptoms).

Additional possibilities include (according to the scientific literature):

1) Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)

2) Food allergies/intolerances (especially IgG types of allergic reactions)

3) Intestinal Dysbiosis - an imbalance in the type of microbiota living in the gut (too few of the 'good guys' and too many of the 'bad guys'.)

Sadly, your docs have probably not tested for these conditions. You may need to find a specialist in Celiac Disease or a nutritionally oriented health care provider (e.g. Naturopathic Physician, Chiropractor, or Certified Clinical Nutritionist) for a thorough evaluation of your situation.

Best wishes and good luck.

This will sound really weird; but ...

I was visiting the doctor's office this week and this is what an elderly couple told me while in the waiting room. Some natural food stores have some kind of test they administer that sounds like something out of the future.

The husband is diabetic and he went to this store where they placed a probe in his hand and ran some kind of probe over his hand and it diagnosed a lot of what had been ailing him. His wife bought some natural food stuff (I don't know what). And, though it is not an overnight remedy, they both agreed (and his doctor confirmed it) that most all of his negative symptom had improved to acceptable. Not bad!

Don't know if this would help you; but look around; it might be helpful. This couple said the results came out on a laptop reading, kinda like when you get you car analyzed on a computer.

Shame on your doctor if he's diagnosed you for it and hasn't prescribed you anything! I know that the medical treatments for IBS are rough (my brother has Crohn's and my friend has colitis).

Some homeopathic remedies that have been shown to help are drinking green coconut water (not coconut oil and not coconut milk) also drinking aloe gel (not the kind you rub on your skin) have been proven to lessen symptoms.

It's kinda hard to get a hand on both of them, but good luck. I sympathize with you...it's one of the worst problems I know about.

Go see a doctor and find out what is going on. Sounds like you need some help. Vitamins would probably be a good idea, but see a doc and try to figure out what is going on. Feel Better!

Find an IBS support group. You shouldn't be completely off your food. You can still eat but you have to avoid certain foods. Find out what they are and you will be OK.

If the Doctor that you have now is not help get more then his opinion and ask him for a referral they don't get hurt feeling over people asking for second opinions or for referrals your health is most important
