You get the first half of your sign on bonus after you complete you AIT training which is after you complete your Basic Training.. but ask your recruiter for the specific details of your contract it might be different. My son joined in 2005,,, and he can get a buddy bonus of 2000. So if you don't have someone who can get that bonus let me know we could use the cash,, I just lost my job.

As for doing College first YES that is the best route if you want to be a commissioned officer. (more money)
Find a good ROTC program too!
There are many other money grants with ROTC, but it depends on where you live and what school you are going to.
We are in Texas and my son gets an additional 650.00 per month when in school. Plus the GI bill paying for school, if he wanted to live on campus he could get his dorm paid for too.

Let me know if you have any other questions. We have been there! and still going there!! =)

sure, I did 15 years in the past. Oh and one element i like to tell Marines while they brag approximately their undesirable a** communities in Afghanistan that are (or have been) practise the community militia. "Yeah, it quite is an incredible project and that's important it quite is why we've the nationwide shield do it. military shield, lively Marine, with regard to an analogous." They hated that! In right this moment's militia the shield does not consistently get the 1st %. on the final missions yet they are an important area of the stress and pull their own weight and function their own conflict area. i could say they seem to be a lot extra respected now then while i became in the shield 10 years in the past. good good fortune Soldier

no. you must complete all training before you see any of it. depending on how big the bonus is, you may only receive half up front and the rest in yearly installments over the length of your enlistment contract.
