Has the Psychiatric community changed their minds about it?

Therefore, why do people protest when Christians call it unacceptable before God?

I'm not particularly homophobic, just want to put things in a bit of perspective.

Deviant is one of those words that has multiple meanings. Deviant is commonly used to describe something that is evil, or wrong, or sneaky.
In the psychology community, deviant is used to describe a behavior that "deviates" from the cultural norm.

In order to sort this out, two things:
1) most professional shrinks no longer consider homosexuality "deviant" and have not since the seventies
2) you might wanna try asking some gay Christians to clear it up for you. That's what the 'net is good for. try googling "gay christian" or something like it. be prepared to learn something. One group I talked to, years ago was "Evangelicals Concerned" and they had intelligent things to say. Maybe they are still out there.

If you choose to run away instead of learn, then think about what motivated you to ask this question in the first place. You are smart enough to wonder. Are you smart enough to question what you think you already know?

Here is the conundrum that forces me to reject Christianity and most of what it stands for : inflexible theologies insist that you "believe" before you have a chance to evaluate the evidence or lack of it. Once you make the decision to "believe" do you not preclude yourself from ever NOT believing? How can you ever question ANYTHING? I cannot in all good conscience, buy a theology that requires me to think that way. I am sympathetic to those who have painted themselves into a corner, but refuse to become one of them.

Having green hair is 'deviant'. It deviates from the norm.

Homosexuality is not the norm. That does not make it an illness.

Homosexuality has not been listed as a diagnosis since the DSM II. We're in the third or fourth revision of DSM IV now. That's an enormous length of time.

Not all psychotherapists do - when is the last time you look this subject up in a psychology journal?

Yes, the concept HAS changed - they haven't found it an abberation for decades now.

Lots of christians do much more deviant things - judge not is a good rule and more should live by it.

Yes, Christians love to use the bible as justification to spread hate, bigotry, and ignorance.

Homosexuality is not consider wrong in the medical community.

Look up deviant. It does not have to have a bad meaning.

Homosexuality hasn't been listed as a psychiatric disorder since 1973. It's not considered deviant at all.

It is wrong. But so is smoking, and cussing. As a Christian I would never judge a person or hate a person due to their sexual oriant, just as I would never hate someone who smokes. Some of my good friends are. We are human and we all make mistakes, but regardless from a moral standpoint it is not right no matter what people want to shout or believe in.

Well old timer, the psychiatric community changed their minds about it over 60 years ago.

Deviant merely means different from the norm. It doesn't mean the behaviour is wrong.
