Isn't a Christian simply one who believes in Christ? Which would make Catholics eligible for the title, right? So why do some Christians think that Catholics are not in fact really Christians?

this is something that's always puzzled me, as my grandmother was one of those Christians who do not believe that Catholics are in fact Christian as well. Her problem with Catholicism was that Catholics pray to Mary as well, is that the only reason, or is there more to it?

disciple, wouldn't you see a minister in any Christian church to be a sort of "mediator" between the follower and Jesus?

There were MANY during the first few centuries after the "Apostolic Age" who argued against or otherwise attempted to block, thwart, ... the gradual movement AWAY FROM the pattern established for the church in scripture. By ABANDONING the New Testament pattern, the church of Rome left TRUTH behind and became merely a tool of Satan to drive people AWAY from Jesus.

My own step-dad left all semblance of Christianity for Buddhism because he believed what he had been told (while growing up in catholicism and studying to become a so-called "priest") that the catholic church represented "true Christianity." Once we were able to show him that truth did not lie in that broken system, he joyfully embraced TRUE CHRISTIANITY, but it was quite difficult to un-teach all the lies he had been force-fed for so long.

The perception and claim that those who tried to REPAIR the BROKEN catholic system left it to create something new is grossly untrue. Martin Luther wanted those who followed his teachings to be SIMPLY CHRISTIANS, just like the Christians we read about in Acts, not "Lutherans."

The PROCESS they BEGAN is still going on today. Many people across the "denominational world" are recognizing the fallacy of the denominational philosophy, that somehow all these factions together make up the church.

The first Christians were JUST CHRISTIANS, not this or that KIND of Christian. The congregations where they shared their lives were JUST CHURCHES, not this or that KIND of church. Many Christians have begun over the last several years to honor the prayer of Jesus "that they may ALL BE ONE."

John 17:20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.

22 “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. 24 Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!

"Catholic Christianity" was NOT what the apostles created, but a PERVERSION of apostolic Christianity. They ABANDONED the New Testament apostolic pattern and, for several centuries, the ONLY true Christians were forced "underground" because they would be killed for teaching the true pattern of the New Testament.

The PROBLEM BEGAN in the second and subsequent centuries with:
1. "Arch-bishops" and the entire hierarchy of LEVELS of church leadership: There is NO leadership for the church on earth except at the LOCAL level, and that CHOSEN from WITHIN each congregation. These leaders have 3 names in the New Testament, and the 3 are used interchangeably. These names, translated elder, pastor, and overseer, are all used describing the same GROUP of local leaders in Acts 20:17-38.

2. "Pope:" An extension of number 1, ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE, the church has ONE head, CHRIST. Ephesians 1:22-23 "God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself." Ephesians 4:15 "Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church." Colossians 2:19 "and they are not connected to Christ, the head of the body. For he holds the whole body together with its joints and ligaments, and it grows as God nourishes it." The body does not have many heads, but one.

3. "Clergy" and priesthood: There is PROPERLY NO distinction between Christians. ALL are priests, 1Peter 2:9 "But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are ROYAL PRIESTS, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light."

All Christians believe in Jesus Christ. But, because some have differing beliefs in some issues, Christianity was divided into three. They are now called the "separated brothers."

They are:

1.) Roman Catholicism (Christian Catholics, the one existing before the division)

2.) Eastern Orthodox (with eastern influences)

3.) Protestantism (Christians)

A friend of mine is a Protestant and I'm a Catholic. She told me that the only differences that she could see between our beliefs are:

1.) Catholics pray the Holy Rosary and Protestants think that Catholics are worshipping Mary because of this.

2.) Protestants does not build images of saints. They think that it is idolatry because they think that Catholics are worshipping them.

3.) Protestants don't make the sign of the cross. They believe that God is always present and they think that making the sign of the cross is like invoking God.

4.) Protestants doesn't believe in all the Sacraments. They believe in only two of them. Baptism and..... I forgot the othe one.

That's all I know. That's what she said and that's what I've learned after reporting about Christianity in my Social Studies class.

The Protestant Reformation. Before than Catholicism was the only form of Christianity. At that time Martin Luther disagreed with some of the policies of the church and broke away from it later forming Lutheranism. All Christians religions such as baptist, methodist, lutheran, etc. broke away from Catholicism.

Catholics pray to Mary for her to intervene and ask Jesus for us, the same for the saints. They do not worship the saints as idols or Gods, just as the middle man in the process of prayer. Catholics also have 7 sacraments, and see the eucharist differently. They believe its the actually body and blood of Christ, NOT a symbol like many Protestants do. Also we have our own Pope that lives in the Vatican in Italy.

starting with martin luther. although some say he later reconciled with the church. catholics are christians and were the only christians for over a thousand years until the great schism around the year 1050...thats when the orthodox church split over issues with the supremacy with the pope.

and for the guy named discipline that said the apocrypha was added by catholics...it was actually put into an appendix by protestants and later taken out all together...so catholics added nothing, their bible has been the same for 1600 years when the council in the fourth century put the canon together.

Catholicism demands prayer to the Pope, Mary, the Saints
As a Christian, I know that Christ is our mediator, we need no one else.

Justification by works (catholicism) vs. Justification by faith (Christianity) read Romans 11:6. But I've learned that this isn't a belief of all catholics.

Catholicism also has the apocrypha added to its Bible

Right throughout history Catholics were not called Christians. During the dark ages they killed many many Christians and that is why there is a saying the pope is the anti- Christ. The Catholic doctrine is not what the bible teaches and it is a counterfeit meaning it is make believe but in reality it is a fake. ( they do believe in Mary and they also say the priests are another Christ, or continuation of Christ ) Catholics always claim to be the only church but that is catholic lies and they forgot that the real Christians were always persecuted by the catholics.

Catholicism is the deep Christianity that replaced into universal from Christ... Christ appointed Peter as a results of fact the top of his new church after he rose from the ineffective... All different Christian religions broke off the Catholic Church and adjusted some issues around to make human beings sense greater valuable approximately themselves relatively... additionally, Catholicism is the only faith based by employing the God that the religion worships... for the reason that Jesus Christ IS God... God the father... God the Son... God the Holy Spirit... ONE God in 3 persons... all the different Christian faiths have been based by employing people who did no longer like what the Catholic faith replaced into doing/asserting...

Eh, pretty much as soon as the Catholic Church split into Catholics and Protestants. Ever since there's always been people saying that Catholics aren't true Christians.

The sperating? About the time Martin Luther posted his rants on the church door and Lutheranism began.

Yes - anyone who blieved in christ a their savior is a christian, regardless of their sect.

People say the saints as intercessions makes the Catholics non believers in jesus. I say it makes the people who say that purposefully ignorant and lazy for not taking the time to actually learn about catholicism.

Well the thing that seperates christains from anything is if they believe that God has paid the way for us to see him face to face. When christ died on the cross the wall between the town and the Holies of Holies (where God was said to meet with the high priest anyone else whoo went in was said to die) was broken. Therefore it meant that we can go straight to god and no have to wory about confessing to a priest. Catholics still belive that god does not care much for the people of this world and that they cannot go straight to God. That is why catholics pray to Mary. Christains pray to go because they believe that because of gos mercy and grace they can go straight to the father.
