I have a Jack Russell about 3 months old. For the first few weeks of owning him, he would barely eat his dry food. I would give him the required amount according to the directions on the bag, and when I get back from work, he would barely touch it. I bought a few cans of wet food, and he eats the whole can right away, no matter what time of day I give it to him. I then tried mixing the two together, and he would let it sit there. I tried buying different brands of dry food, anything from grocery store to Healthy pet store food. He does not like it. Should I just go with wet food from now on, and just give him chew bones for his teeth?

Of course , most dogs would gobble the moist food up if offered that every day- its like feeding a treat all the time. I would not encourage that. Some dry kibble is good for their teeth and mouth and wet food as alot of calories. Also when you might go out of town or have to leave your dog at a kennel, the moist food may not always work well. Or traveling with your dog, dry kibble is easier. I wouldn't reinforce it. Try to transition your dog to dry kibble , you can mix it w/ some moist then gradually decrease the moist food. When he is hungry, he will eat. All animals have a survival mode and he will learn that You are not going to cater to him.It just makes for an all around finicky eater. You can also do dry kibble mixed with cooked Chicken. That is healthier than canned, over processed moist dog food.

Dry dog food is better for dog's teeth. Wet dog food is normally not as healthy as dry dog food. Most people feed their dog wet dog food are because of the dog likes it better.

We try to avoid commercial dog foods entirely (with the occasional Science Diet exception). Here's what we feed our dogs: plain chicken breasts (shredded), LEAN hamburger (completely drained), a mixture of fruits and vegetables, with a little bit of rice. For treats, they get things like turkey necks and femur bones. It might sound like a lot of work, but it's not that bad. You just cook the meat and rice up at the beginning of the week and then warm it up before your feed them, and then add the vegetables (slightly cooked).

When we switched over, they took to it immediately. Within a few days, our newest dog (adopted from the Humane Society) was finally rid of her diarrhea (which we're certain was caused in part by the Purina One they told us to feed her) and....drum roll please...their poop doesn't stink! I swear to god. The newest dog's poop used to make me swoon and gag (it was rancid, and disgusting beyond comprehension), but no longer!

Talk to your vet, because ours recommended this as a solution to the new dog's problem.

Use a complete dry food , we use iams, but soak it in warm water. Maybe you are expecting him to eat more than he requires. Dry food swells to aprox 3 times its original volume . Wet food is already 70% water.

As you should know, dry food are better because they don't make your dogs teeth bad. In your dogs case, I guess you can do that but be sure to brush his teeth more often.

I would worry about her teath if you only give her canned food. also, that stuff isn't the best for her. I would seek advice form your vet on what to do. when your puppy is hungary she will eventually eat the dry food.
good luck
