Its easy I think to be speeding on a odd occasion as often the speed limits are not displayed clearly or at all and they change often. Its easy to do. Buying a detector will stop losing my license and stop increasing the burden on the overstretched trains if I did. What do you think?

One person writes that not noticing the signs means not noticing the child. Actually because I am watching so much for the child this means on the odd occasion the speed limit sign can be missed. All the replies seem to have missed the points I made. I said odd occasion. If they cannot read this then they will not read the speed signs either!

Actually we are now watching our speedos all the time so we are not looking out of the window so are more likely to have an accident.

George Orwell was right - just a few years out on the date.- we are becoming the most repressed over governed police state on the planet. Anyone one who can should emigrate!! Why people are wanting to come here I do not know!!

Buy speed detectors including the illegal radar detectors but do not rely on them as the police are getting sneakier again.

The stiffer penalty is only for exceeding the speed limit by a big margin.
I think it's fair that if you are going at 50 mph in a 30 limit then you should pay a bigger fine than someone who does 35 but I agree limits should be made more obvious.
If you use a detector in some countries the police can confiscate your car..

Buying a radar detector is a false security.
Aircraft and other methods of checking for speeders is also used.
Having driven for longer the most of you (and being crazier the most also when driving), I have only got 2 speeding tickets. One reason for this is that a speeding ticket is the least of the problems that going 140 in a 35 can get you (yes I have). Vehicular homicide carries a very stiff penalty, and it should. So I drive more heads up then most.
If you are not seeing the speed limit changes, you will not see the kid on a bike either. That is what scares me and it should you too.
Slow down to where you at least know when you get the ticket what you should have been doing.

I am also finding road bumps traffic restriction signs etc. are
getting to a point that I feel they are a danger in themselves. I also suspect that many restrictions put up in a "area" of known accidents can be up to a mile from that area. What it is the establishment in this country do not like to have population mobility and the use of public transport would enable them to control population movement almost to the level of the Middle Ages in which a serve had to get the permission of the local baron the leave the village. It was of course rarely given. This is in line with Soviet policy of the USSR and is not exaggerated when it is borne in mind that about half of the present government are or were communist sympathisers

Road awareness is down to the driver, regardless of wether a speed limit sign is posted, or not, it is upto the driver to use there judgement as a qualified (licensed) driver to assess the road they are traveling on, e.g. we all know that a built up area is 30mph (with or without signs). So if you were caught doing 50mph you gonna get a ticket, however if there were no signs and you were caught doing 34mph you MAY get away with it.
Speed trap detectors are one way of not getting caught whilst speeding..... There are plans to try to make them illegal though.... so this may only be a temporary answer for you.
The only long term answer is to change your driving habits and take away the need to speed, so allow more time for journeys etc.
I am now down to 3 pts on my license. But for the last 3 years I have had 9 pts on my license and my job meant I have to use a vehicle. I travel around 1400 miles a week to perform my duties. Once you are faced with the fact that one more speeding ticket and you will lose NOT ONLY YOUR LICENSE but your career and probably your home too (due to not making mortgage payments) it soon changes your driving habits for you. And you do stick to speed limits.

The stiffer penalties are only for the worst offenders. If you're only accidentally speeding on an "odd occasion" because "the speed limits are not displayed clearly", then you have nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't drive on an unfamiliar road without my GPS tax camera detector. True, it gives off false alarms, and it doesn't react to radar, other than issue a warning as you approach a known preferred site, but for the £100 it cost me, it's saved me at least 5 times that I know about.
I don't advocate irresponsible driving, but you have to fight these b*stards all the way!

i think wat ur talkin about is a Radar Detector. It's a device that will detect laser and diff. signal bands from police, as well as automatic door and many others. This device can be very annoying and often gives u false alarm, since cop and automatic door use same signal band. As for, buyin this device will stop u from losing ur license? i assume that u actually are a speeder. IMO, the best detector is still your eye sight n slow down :)

I think you don't like trains and you do like speeding and you are being selfish. Which is not a problem, except for some reason you insist on rationalizing this as a reasonable or even heroic act. Skip that part, doesn't work.

A detector will not do you much good with the modern radar guns that they use now.. They point it at you and pull the trigger. If your detector goes off that means they have already clocked you.
