I was curious about what program is used for word processing for Macs. Plus is there a program that can open open .doc on the Mac, other than Microsoft Office for the Mac?

I'm asking this question because I'm planning on buying a Macbook. And my second question is do you think it's worth switching over to Mac even if I'm been using Windows my whole life?

Hi,

The most comprehensive word processor for the Mac is Microsoft Word. Microsoft ported Word to Windows so Windows users could open .doc made on Macs and create Word .doc files on computers running Windows. In other words your assumption that .doc is a Windows format is incorrect. It is a Mac format that was ported to Windows.

MacOS ships with a fairly simple word processor called TextEdit. TextEdit can open files with .doc extensions, but the result is just the text and not much of the formatting is kept.

Sun Microsystems makes a product called OpenOffice, and there's another product called NeoOffice which gives OpenOffice a new interface. Both are free. For light-duty use they can suffice because they can open, read, and write .doc files, but fonts may look different and the ability to create and use popular VBA add-ins is non-existent in these programs.

There's a special on Office for Mac right now. Click the link for details.

a million. try OpenOffice 2. in case you have between the maximum modern OS'es for MAC notice that it rather is a BSD UNIX clone, so which you would be able to determine from the different UNIX classes; notice that maximum of them are loose as OpenOffice is.

mac uses all MS products just like windows, you can convert all files & it's easy to do. many people find MAC more reliable & able to do more plus SIMPLER to use. most commands are exactly the same on MAC
