I think it's true. The bible made me an atheist decades before I had even heard of Dawkins or Hitchens.

Well, Asimov certainly had proper respect for the Bible, properly read, at least:

"No other book has been so studied and so analyzed and it is a tribute to the complexity of the Bible and the eagerness of its students that after thousands of years of study there are still endless books that can be written about it." - Isaac Asimov, from the Introduction of his very highly recommended Guide to the Bible.

Peace to you.

I do agree with it to some extent. I think when you carefully question and look at it it helps atheism. The more questions I ask myself or the more things I find out about the bible and how to get to heaven, the more I think it just doesnt make sense. I'm not gonna get into it but I have my reasons for why I disagree with some of gods ways.

Another personal fav for me is "The Best Cure for Christianity is READING the Bible."--Mark Twain

The bishops really flubbed up when the chose the books for their bible. 363CE Council of Laodicea names 26 New Testament books as "inspired word of God"; Book of Revelation is excluded. When Emperor Constantine ordered 50 copies of the Bible to be copied, they included The Letter of Barnabas and The Shepard of Hermes -- two books that do not appear in today's Bibles.

Since then the bible has been translated, revised, re-translated, re-revised, re-retranslated...in many ways its more of a patchwork quilt rather than scripture.

That is just the literal side of the bible, heheheee ya open a whole other 'can of worms' when ya talk about the content. One of the OTHER errors that the bishops that created the bible caused was talking scripture from differing 'denominations' or sects. This has led to many of the contraditions within the bible. Every issue can and has been argued FOR and AGAINST with use of biblical citation from slavery, abortion, capitol punishment, gay rights, to divorce.

Hehehee then should we get into the actual 'moral fiber' of the fore fathers of Christianity---Abraham was a bearer of False Witness and a blackmailer, Jacob stole his brother's birth right and inheritence with his lies and subterfuge, then there is the whole 'false prophet' thing with 'Paul'.

According to the Laws of God, Deutronomy 13, 'Paul' is named a 'false prophet'. Though he bears this in many of his preachings, but Romans 10:4 totally sums it up. "For christ is the end of the law, that everyone who has faith will be justified." Under Deuteronomy 13, anyone that teaches that a person doesn't have to follow the Laws of God AND advocates an OTHER god like 'Paul' does here with 'Jesus', then they are a 'false prophet".

Then there is the FACT that prety much every tenet of Christianity is listed within the biblical scriptures as ABOMINATIONS to god.

Hosea 13:2 Human Sacrifice---ABOMINATION
Jeremiah 32:35 Sacrificing upon High Places, like Mt. Calvary---Abomination
Leviticus 7:22/ Hos 8:13 Communion---ABOMINATION
Deuteronomy 13/ Matthew 23:15 Converting People—Abomination
Deut 4:15-16 Defining ‘Jesus’ as god--ABOMINATION

Hehheee probably MORE than you were looking for, but you DID ask. ohh, and there is also MORE.

I agree

If you try to sit down and read the Bible cover to cover like you would any other book, I think its obvious that it's a collection of fictional tales and isn't even particularly well written.

That is true. There are many mindsets you can have when you read the Bible, and quite a few of them are more helpful to Atheism than any religion.

It answers itself my friend, I was an avid reader of his works, and after I started investigating his life and interests I found out he was just another unknowing self made idiot like most people who claim to have read the "Bible" and really never did. There are just too many astute and learned individuals of profound knowledge that agree with the infallibility of that great and powerful work the "Holy Bible" for anyone to come out and make such a stupid remark as that! In summery then, it's my opinion that atheism conceived Isaac Asimov... ;o)

What do you think of this quote:

"Isaac Asimov was sh*thead extraordinare!"

Not joking, I've actually heard that before... Personally, I find it amusing. I'm only a regular sh*thead myself.

Actually, it reveals to me that Mr. Asimov cannot properly read the Sunday Funnies let alone the Bible. Do you know how many conversions have occurred just by reading the Bible? And most of those people were reading the Bible for NO OTHER REASON THAN TO DISPROVE IT. Y'know what? Properly read, it turns you into a Child of God that has been forgiven his sins, not by anything they did (besides believing) but by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
