im a bit of an artist, so i decided to paint my mates sum pictures, because theyre moving away. ive completed one of a rose. only probelm is i used cheap paint. so the red bit of the rose is all cracked and i was absolutely devestated. is there any sort of oil i can put on it or anything to help it 'un-crack' ? (ive already tryed re painting it, but the cracks come back again) plz help! thanks :)

once the cracks are there it is too late to cure it.

chances are the cracking is the result of how you used the paint, thickness of application, amount of dryer mixed with the medium & the paint.. incompatible ground with the paint... and there can be other reasons..

addendum:

I assumed you used oil paint since you mentioned oil as a solution... Other types of paint can have similar cracking problems... although it is quite difficult to make acrylic paint crack unless the surface underneath if is not really compatible with acrylic paint...

im assuming your using acrylics,so here are some problems that could of occoured.
1. the "cheap paint" you used to do the painting might be craft paint, which is NOT for artists use on a canvas.
2. the thickness of the paint could have been to much for the paint to handle, since cheap paint is not meant for heavy layers.

this can be solved by apply a tiny bit of acrylic gesso over the cracked spot, and reapainting it with artists acrylic.

not usre what you could do there. i know there is a paint you can use to make your picture go all cracked like it was painted in ye olde times. hope that helps. do you have time to paint another ?

No one else knows it was an error! .. Antique the whole thing... problem solved. Other will just think that is what you intended...
