I have Veterinary Pet Insurance. I've had it for 5 years. I have a Jack Russel Terrier. I pay $25.00 a month for full coverage (except for routine care). Unfortunately I've had to use it 3 times. Once for a pit bull attack on my dog. Her bill was 1300. I had the vet fill the form out (I took a copy of the claim form w/me), he signed it and they faxed it right to VPI from the vets office. I had to pay everything up front (put it on my credit card) and I got back 956.00 in two weeks. I has never taken more than two weeks for the claim checks to come. My monthly amount has never gone up. I get the money taken out of my account automatically. Sometimes I forget my dog has insurance.
Either PETA or HSUS has come out with pet insurance. I can't remember which one. The last time I checked it wasn't available in Florida yet. That was a year ago.

I have an extended policy for my 9 dogs, as well as a Kennel Policy because I have a training facility and I house up to 4 foster dogs at a time. I have a VPI business holder policy, which has many more perks and features, but costs even more than a premium policy. Once you have more than 5 dogs, they give you a great discount per dog. I of course think it is worth it. You can save on most standard health care procedures, including spay/neuters, dentals, vaccines, regular health checks, and more. I do not know about many other companies, but I have been with VPI for over ten years and would never change. Plus, they sponser AKC events and are affiliates.

Well, I have 4 pets and rarely do all 4 go down at once. In fact, I rarely have any problems with them at all, rarely overly sick, just diarhea once in a while or something.
Anyway, what I do is every paycheck, I put $50 into a savings account as a just in case fund. I don't take out of this fund for routine visits or minor things like diarhea. It's for illnesses or injuries that may cost over 200$ then I'll dip into it. Right now, I have about $5K save up cause I've never had to use. I still put into it though, just so I have it.

I work for a vet, the only two companies we have seen worth while is,
VPI Pet Insurance
http://www.petinsurance.com/
ASPCA Pet Insurance
http://www.aspcapetinsurance.com/
I know these types of insurance companies do not work like normal people health insurance. You pay everything out of pocket and depending on the plan(s) you choose for you dog they pay you back. Kind of a pain in the a$$ too
I do not personally have it for my dog

Insurance is a "for profit business" so how can it not make your pets health bills higher??
When you buy pet health insurance all you are doing is betting a company that your pet will have a bad problem, and they are betting you that it won't. The statistics will always favor the company.

I'm self insured as pet insurance is prohibitively expensive and they are hard to collect from. If you use one, get a $1000 deductable to keep the rates reasonable.
DON'T use anything by PETA or the HSUS - they're EVIL!
