From some of the hostility toward non-believers I've seen in here, you'd think they took it as a personal insult.

Coop, it does work both ways, my friend. But some do seem to take it personally.

I am deeply religious but I say I'm an atheist to piss Christians off, is it working?

I used to be a non-believer and I was a very angry person. I was extremely mad at God and I guess I still do get mad at Him even though I know it's not His fault anymore. I used to blame Him for all injustice in the world. I realize now that THERE IS NO JUSTICE IN THE WORLD. It makes sense to me now that we have free will and that the devil is the god of this world until God judges the world. It seems by what we often say, that we want justice NOW for all the bloodshed but would we want instant death for our own sins? I'm no better than the next and am in need of as much forgiveness.
I have no rebuttal for those who think they live a perfect life with no sin.

Anyway, to answer your Q, I was very defensive when I was a non-believer so yes I took it in a hostile way. I wouldnt say I took it personally though. It may have seemed that way but I think all in all, I was just trying to figure it all out for myself. This of course was impossible until I lay down my anger.

No it is not a personal insult.

I think that many people come in here and ask stupid questions and try to get a rise out of the believers and most of the time they do..... What insults me is that as much as believers talk the faith and walk the faith they are not open to other peoples (sensible) opinions on the subject.....I do not try to make or assume that what you believe in is not the right thing to do . I try to understand why one would believe.......To spite you I don't know you and maybe it's you who feels insulted................

I see more hostility toward the "imbecilic" believers as many atheists like to call them. A "mental virus" is also a direct quote from another atheist (I can provide a link). I think that they feel like every critical and differing comment is made just to spite them. Bring on the mass thumbs down as usual.

It would not be reasonable to think someone chooses their world view based on how a stranger responds to it. Perhaps the hostility you see is a reaction to the scorn expressed toward believers by some of the non-believers. Understandable, but not very helpful, is it?

Most people I know are "non-believers" as far as my religion goes as I am a member of a small minority religion. I don't think that people are disbelieving "just to spite me" but there are SOME (and the emphasis is on SOME) Christians and Muslims who seem to feel that way

I do not.

Non-believers disbelieve because they do not yet know the truth. Some of them will someday know the truth and then will believe. Others will die in the unbelief and will, unfortunately, have to spend eternity separated from the source of life and love.

not all are going to settle for. Why they think of we are able to alter because of the fact of what they rant, is ridiculous. Anti believers are spiritually lost. God gave them a spirit, inspite of the undeniable fact that it somewhat is dumbed-down interior their gut. it somewhat is in basic terms their spirit which will enable the understanding of GOD. some anybody is geared up for the hearth. they are made for the "service of insurrection." They do a brilliant job. they are suitable actors for the area. it somewhat is that straightforward. No rocket technology logic mandatory. They SPITE THEMSELVES! All that worldly intelligence and not something rather to coach for it. you will possibly think of blind faith may be the least of their concerns. clever?

I don't. I think they probably have very legitimate reasons for not believing. However, I imagine they get tired of the people who tell them they have no morals, are going to hell, and otherwise pull a "Church Lady" on them. I don't like those kinds of people either.

I see it on both sides, so don't say that just believers are do it. I was verbally attacked because of what I said, yet they can imply that my intelligience is lacking and no one says anything against them. I see animosity against those who don't believe as you.
