I don't think racism is worse in Germany than in USA, its just expressed differently.

In USA, due to the long history with black slaves, there is a huge historical wound concerning that in their consciousness. In Germany, there was no such contact with blacks. So there is no overt hatred for blacks from personal history of the country.

Now comes the bad news. There is indeed racism against blacks In USA and in Germany, just like everywhere. Very sad fact, but its true. It makes no logical sense, but its a fact.

Specifically in Germany, there has been some recent history of hatred towards blacks. Obviously, there is the famous event in which Hitler in 1936 was shocked when Jesse Owen, the famous US runner scored some gold medal in the Berlin olympics. Hitler had written some damning passages against many races, blacks being among them. This was a long time ago, and Nazism is more or less dead. But there are still problems in Germany with racism.

First of all, the German mentality. They are cold, calculating, and reserved people who tolerate very little inefficiency and tolerate even less something different. There is also a large amount of Neo-Nazi white-supremacists around, which the police tries to control, but is unable to eliminate. This is mainly in the poor East German regions, so avoid any city that is there. Unfortunately, Berlin has a high Neo-Nazi crime rate, so watch out.

Secondly, there is a recent historical conflict going on with Turkish people. After the war, Germany hired thousands of Turkish workers to do cheap labour and clean up their ruined cities. These Turkish people eventually stayed and raised or brought families there. Now, it's a big problem. Turkish people are often discriminated against and given crappy jobs. They have their own institutions and religious centers, which have been at times set on fire by racist Germans. Having dark skin in Germany is, unfortunately, not seen favorably. But of course, Germans are very reserved on the surface and they will be fake-polite for the most part, especially in larger, richer cities in the Western regions. Nevertheless, their true feelings are in general extremely pro-white, and pro-German.

Go ahead and visit or study in Germany! Don't let this stop you. Just be careful. Sadly, in this insane world, people jusdge by color, especially in small, traditional, ego-centric countries like Germany.

I dated an Austrian who only like Black women. I know there are exceptions to rules; but, I've found that more German and even Swedish men, than people think, covet Black women. That's not to say that any race is better than the other. I'm just going by my experiences with communicating with men from those two European countries

No, I have always had a great time in Koln and Frankfurt. Very nice people, and these cities have a large black population, so you will be fine. The USA is extremely racist, so any little stares and unintentional stuff in Western Germany should be a breeze!

RJ you re kidding or what about France, we have the first african community in Europe , we don' t have as many problems as germany has with black people.
In eastern germany there are plenty of racists , i have an african friend who spent one year in Weimar, she has been insulted so many times by skindeads and the same kind of people " schwatrz" "du bist eine ******" "ich hasse ******" . It was really a bad experience , she was disguted when talking about her trip.
I would avoid spending time in eastern germany, western germany is really better for you , try either München or Frankfurt.
Anyway RJ you made me really laugh , in Europe you can't feel better than being in Paris for an african american.
Moreover we have more mixed couples than in America so... I am currently an exchange student in the US,presicely in the south , everyday i see separation between black and white people, it really piss me off.

As an African-American, I think you will be fine. I have heard of racism against Turks in Germany due to a large influx of Turkish immigrants though.
