I used proactive ($25 a month) for a year, and it was ok, not great. It has 2.5% benzoyl peroxide.

Then I went to the dermatologist, and he gave me a script for acne wash that has 5% benzoyl peroxide (It also exists in a higher strength--10%).

Cheaper, AND it worked wonders in a very short period of time. Yes, you have to moisturize a lot.
Oil of Olay with SPF 15 is great. Walmart has a generic and cheaper moisturizer you could use.

I went from hating my face to feeling like one of those "normal" people in just a couple weeks. But don't worry if it takes a bit longer.

Different acne treatments work differently for different people ;-) but I think I compile some info on Proactiv for you, based on reported experience:

Proactiv Negatives
===================

- irritating
- dry out skin
- expensive to keep having it sent to you month after month
- clear face up, but as soon as you stop using it the acne might come back
- it bleaches the cloth...
- doesn't seem to work as well on blackheads
- skin became darker
- temporarily red in areas
- slight burning sensation when applying toner/repairing lotion

Proactiv Positives
===================

- really does work
- clears your face up pretty quickly
- leaves your face feeling soft
- reduce the appearance of pores

well ive been using it for a year now and it really helped reduce my breakouts, so i would say it does work most of the time

however, it may not work for some ppl...

and of course u probably will get those few pimples every once in a while... but theyre no big deal

Yes it works but I've gotten similar results w/ Oxy10 face wash & PanOxyl bars.

Well for me it worked but it made my skin sooooo freakin dry that I just had to stop using it. But I would still try it if I were you because it works differently for different people.

It made my skin very irritated. I then had to go to a dermatologist, so I saved absolutely no money. I would not suggest using it.

it helped me a little but if you have really bad skin, it doesn't clear it completely, you might have to go to a dermatologist
